When using You Tube there is always an AD tempting the reader to convert a photo into a cartoon (which could be handy as e.g. an Avatar) BUT I have heard that the site is liable to leave some nasty behind when finished. Clarification on this issue would be most appreciated if anyone is aware of such. Alternatively, if another freeby is available to perform the same task I would appreciate a pointer to it. I would avoid this site. Web of Trust gives it a poor rating. All links in a Google search indicate RED.

You could try some of the effects with the free Paint.NET – Free Software for Digital Photo Editing. Search their forum at Paint.NET • Index page for a plugin or thread explaining how to do what you want.

You might want to try the free image editor/manipulator GIMP, which has a Cartoon Filter.
