I’m still happily using the old Microsoft Photo Editor from the Office 97 package. I am now running Windows ME and Office 2000.
My question is what program superceded Microsoft Photo Editor

O2k loads with MS Photo Editor, version 3.01…

        Karen,

Thanks for the info. Does Photo Editor load with all suite versions? Is it available as a standalone?

I think Microsoft’s stand alone photo/paint application is PhotoDraw.

Photo Editor sems to be shipped as part of MS Office (I’m not sure about Office XP)

Haven’t they discontinued PhotoDraw? It’s not in Office XP.

Oh maybe they have. Any particular reason you know of ?

Was it ever part of any Office package ?

PhotoDraw was part of O2K Premium.

I just went to the Microsoft Site and found this…

              http://www.microsoft.com/office/previous/p…iscontinued.htm

I hardly think Visio or Photo Editor are a suitable replacement for PhotoDraw. Do you know of any decent image editing programs? I’m still searching for something relatively easy to learn and does a good job. I think PhotoShop would be overkill for what I need. I need to mainly do web images like banners, buttons, … Oh well, I’m probably drifting off-topic.

paint shop pro or lview pro would be my choices. PSP is about $100, lview is about $50, i think.

I like Adobe Photoshop Elements and Ulead PhotoImpact. Either is under $100 (US).

Have you checked the software forum? I believe I saw a few recommended there.

What if the author of the linked page were on truth serum? Perhaps the answer would be different:

              Why was PhotoDraw discontinued?
It sucked. Plus, Corel’s office suite doesn’t include CorelDRAW, so why should we include a drawing package? We offer Visio and Picture It! for your drawing and photo editing needs if you outgrow Microsoft Draw and Photo Editor. This makes more sense. Trust us.

(I’m just bitter because I missed the upgrade deadline to get PhotoDraw 2.0)

lack of sales, few copies were sold individually, most people got it by buying office 2000 premium.
