photo attachments using outlook express (win 98)

At a friend’s this morning she showed me that when she attaches photographs to an email they also display in the body of the email itself?

Has anyone any idea what has happened? How can we stop it. I can see nothing in tools or options which would appear to have any connection?

Is she using ‘Plain Text’ or ‘HTML’ type email?
Also I have heard that using ‘MS Word’ as the editor will do this.

it can’t be stopped – why do you want to stop it?

it’s a feature of express and a couple of other mail programs. it’s not dangerous, since only true images can be displayed. fake images that are really viruses can’t be displayed/run.

as a side note, the capability to display attached images at the end of the message is dependant on the mail program used to read the message. Outlook can not display them, except embedded in html – not sure on other programs.
