Phantom folders in Outlook 2010 PSTs

Within most of my Outlook 2010 PSTs, folders have started (about July 24) to appear with names like
“the file so that changes to the file will be reflected in your item.2”
The digit on the end is missing from the first folder, subsequent folders have increasing digits.
At first, I saw the same names, but starting with the word “Search”, but that no longer occurs.
The folders are empty and appear in all PSTs except my default PST. They can be deleted from any PST except my archive PST, which is named “Archive we2.pst”, but they reappear (or increase in number) every time Outlook is started with Norton Internet Security active. It is possible to get them out of the archive PST by shutting down Norton Internet Security, then creating a new PST and copying or moving the desired folders into it.
The only way I have found of avoiding the folders’ reappearance is to close all but the default PST before closing Outlook, then open them after Outlook is next started.
Scanpst.exe does not clean out these folders.
Posts have occurred on TechNet about these messages, but generally in connection with OSTs and Exchange.
I don’t see any related information on the Symantec website.
I have used various versions of Outlook in various versions of Windows on various PCs since 2000, always using POP3. Currently, it’s Outlook 2010 (since 2012) on Windows 7 (since 2010) 64-bit (since 2012) on a Lenovo ThinkPad T430 (since 2012) with Norton Internet Security 2010 (since 2010), all fully patched.
Since July 1, all active PSTs are under 50 MB. I have a housekeeping routine that includes compacting all active PSTs monthly.

It appears that the recent SP2 for Office 2010 (since July 16) introduced a conflict with the Norton Anti-Spam Add-In, which can be resolved by a beta version of that component:

Thanks to Bruce for the very prompt and targeted reply!
Following the advice in the Norton Community thread of your link, I have disabled the Norton Anti-Spam add-in, and the extra folders no longer appear.
I’ll look into the extra question posed there, and possibly find and try the new (beta) add-in version. Meanwhile, the main issue seems resolved.
