I keep getting, every few minutes in Firefox, this warning in regards to omgili.com

You need Adobe Flash Player 8 (or above) to view the charts. It is a free and lightweight installation from Adobe.com. Please click on Ok to install the same.

Does anyone know how to get rid of it. I have been going nuts in my efforts to stop it.

Have you tried downloading and installing Adobe Flash Player 8 ?? Do you have a newer version of Adobe Flash Player on your system ??

You need a pdf reader, not necessarily Adobe. Use Foxit Reader and skip all of Adobe’s security problems and constant updates.

OOPs, thought you said Adobe Acrobat. I lied

      Hi ,

I’d strongly advise upgrading to Flash 10 … as versions 8/9 are not terribly secure these days … Just surf to the Adobe site from the link in the message that pops up .. and save ( to install later ) .. or run … You’ll need the Mozilla version …. If you don’t … you’ll continue to find websites that can’t display their Flash content in your browser .. Cheers ….

Exactly what I would have posted. The current version is Flash Player 10. If your hardware can handle it, install it. The Firefox plug-in comes along with the installation these days. And get rid of the old versions. Sometimes they do not automatically remove themselves. Secunia Software Inspector (on line or the PSI download) will find the locations on your computer of any old remnants so you can remove them.

That’s how I handle it too. But Adobe products do not play nice nor cleanup after themselves very well so after an upgrade, you will sometimes find the old version in your system32/macromedia/flash folder. So before I install a new version, I run Adobe’s uninstall flash player utility, then do the upgrade. Bob’s right about Secunia too, I have that run as memory resident, invaluable little utility which tells you right away when anything is outdated on your system and has fixes for most everything but IE 8, but I use FireFox exclusively so that doesn’t bother me, and you can run their online scanner too as well as have them send you an email when something new comes up or changes, even, for instance, when a new version of FireFox comes out.

Getting rid of older versions of Flash Player can be very difficult, unless you get the “Flash Player Uninstaller” directly from Adobe:

      http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/141/tn_14157.html

After you uninstall any/all of the oder versions, simply go here to get the newest version:

      http://www.adobe.com/flashplatform/

Look for the link on the lower-right side for “Get Adobe Flash Player”. Pay attention when you install it, as it will default to added a browser toolbar that you probably do not want – just uncheck that option when you see it.

Your information about the reader – imo – is perfectly valid.

Thanks, jascarlin. I’ve replaced all my invasive plugins, Quicktime, Realplayer, WMP and Adobe Acrobat Reader. Unfortunately, we’re all stuck with Adobe Flash for playing embedded videos. Until something else comes along…
