Permanently removing tracking cookie Tribalfusion.com

Fortunately, my PC over the years has been maintained without any Tracking Cookies, but recently a trial software download introduced several of these cookies, which I’m experiencing extreme difficulties in deleting permanently. Using Windows 7 and Firefox as my browser, I can delete the cookies from Firefox through the Tools, Options, Privacy tab, only to find imediately afterwards that thry have all reappeared in Firefox. Searching the ‘net for answers has proved that I’m not the only one to experience this problem. Even using different spyware software can find these nasties and delete them, but still they reappear. From my searching I gather that one of them ‘Tribalfusion.com’ is proving particularly difficult to remove permanently. There are several others in the same category.

I have also tried finding the culprit in the Registry, but without permanent success.

The relevant path appears to be C:UsersOwnerAppDataRoamingMozillaFirefoxProfiles4e4iomsa.default. This folder contains numerous files with the extension .sqlite. Even deleting these files does not permanently delete the cookies in question. When trying to find this folder’s name in the Registry, I encountered an Inbox Toolbar, that appeared unimportant and was deleted by me, but without any success in relation to the reappearing cookies.

Has any one in this forum had a similar experience and found the answer to permanently delete these nasties? I would appreciate any assistance.

Have you tried the FF add-ons Enhanced Cookie Manager and Better Privacy? Together, for me, these seem to prevent the condition that you describe. ECM only keeps those cookies that I explicitly allow, and deletes all the rest each time that I start FF, BP is set to delete all LSOs every time that I close FF. I now use FF 13, but this has worked through many past versions of FF. A more extreme solution might be to modify your HOSTS file, but I would let someone else advise on that.

I would MalwareBytes Antimalwareto scan for malware that could be doing this. Also use Revo Uninstaller to look for any obvious apps that you did not install. (The 30 day free trial of the Pro version will look for 64 Bit apps as well. The free version only works with 32 Bit apps)

Tribalfusion is an advertising company and like all such organizations, they like to know what your surfing habits are.

There are several ways you can overcome these problems.

[*]Checkmark the “Do Not Track” option in Tools | Options | Privacy menu. (Hit the ALT key to get the text links if you’re using the layout with the oblong orange Firefox button top left)
[*]Install a Cookie Manager. I use “Cookie Monster” which you can download from here: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/cookie-monster/?src=ss
[*]Install “Adblock Plus” to block ads: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/adblock-plus/?src=ss
[*]Change permissions for sites. To do that, type: ABOUT:PERMISSIONS in the location bar and hit Enter. Use the Search option to find Tribalfusion.com and then choose “Block” for all the options.

“about:permissions” should be written in lowercase, but on this site, it turns it into a smiley which is why I’ve written it with capslock enabled above.
