When Windows 10 was introduced, I remember reading that there was no way to ever stop Microsoft from updating it, even if you turned Windows Update off.

Yet I Google this, and find there is an editable Group Policy in Windows 10 Pro that enables “Never Update.”

Does this, or does this not, work?

I am buying e new machine from Dell, and I don’t want to EVER update it, EVER, period. N E V E R.

    Will this do that?

Supply your source, please, so we can evaluate and decide if it indeed answers your question about permanently disabling Windows Update. Thank You.

Also, there have been some claims that Win10 checks for updates for certain components automatically in the background without using Windows Update. Hopefully some folks here can either shed some light on that allegation, or debunk it, using proven sources for either side of the allegation.

With my deepest respects but if you don’t want to EVER update, then NEVER connect to the Internet. Otherwise you put all of us at risk. Patches aren’t bad. Really they are not.

There are ways to better control the timing of updates but I have a fleet full of Windows 10 machines that I always install updates on and in all honesty, they rarely have issues.

So would you mind sharing why you don’t want to update a machine that is shipped to you at risk from the get go?
