PDF to Word converter [free, if possible]

I would like to convert a PDF file (an instruction manual) to Word. I have Foxit Reader, free, which precludes this. Is there another Free product around you would recommend?

I have never used it so have no idea how good it is at converting PDF files.

Thanks, Tony. I had downloaded that, but the PDF has to be in a file and since Foxit Free doesn’t allow you to save to a file on one’s PC, I couldn’t use this program.

I think you’ll find that if you go File->save as… Foxit will let you do it.

Foxit Pro will allow that. Not the free version….

Using Foxit (not paid for) version 3.1.2.1013 I can choose File -> save as… and save PDF files to wherever I want.

Are these files perhaps opened directly from Internet/email? If so try right clicking and doing your browsers equivalent of save target.

Having Foxit should have no effect on whether or not you can use the program Tony suggested. How are you obtaining the pdf file?

I’m also having trouble, wondering why you can open the original PDF, but not already have a saved copy. But given that’s your situation, you can use Foxit Free to print the PDF to a PDF file, using a virtual printer driver like the free PDF Converter – doPDF[/url]. You can then use one of the free converters mentioned to produce a Word doc.

Found a solution: used the copy text icon, right clicked, chose Copy to Clipboard, then pasted.

It pastes only text but is workable.

My apologies to all who took the time to answer.

You were correct that Foxit would allow me to convert the PDF to Word. My mistake was not indicating the correct “Files of type” in the Open box.
