pdf splitter

I am looking for software that I can split a pdf into separte files and/or merge different pdf files into one. Does Adobe Writer do this? I can’t seem to find this info from the Adobe website. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Acrobat Standard allows you to add and subtract pages – I’m afraid I haven’t used these features that much other than to combine individual pdf’s created from different applications into one document, so I can’t advise if it is the best method!

I have downloaded pdf995 software (freeware version). It allows me create pdfs, using the pdfedit, I have been able to extract pages and create different pdf files and combine pdf files.

So far this is doing what I wanted. We had a pdf that we had to send by e-mail and it was over 25 megbytes. The guy we were sending it to on his boat in Monte Carlo said he would have to wait all night for it to come through! That was the last thing we wanted to hear last night at half past seven!!!

But I do think we should get at least Adobe Standard.

Hi Hetty,

It sounds, then, that you might have needed a file splitter, rather than a pdf splitter, as such. Of course, whichever way you split the file, it’ll still be a 25Mb download. The one advantage of splitting it as a pdf, is that, if emailed as a series of files, the recipient could receive and open each bit as it arrived. The other thing to bear in mind is that, whatever program you used to create the source file for the pdf (eg Word/Excel) should allow you to export whatever groupds of pages you tell it to to the pdf engine. That would achieve the same result as using a pdf-editor to do the job.

Finally, you might want to check your pdf-creator’s compression settings, especially for embedded images. You might find that you can change these to save the file in a more compressed format without losing anything appreciable on the end result except for file size. Failing that, there’s always WinZip, but that won’t help if the pdf fiel isn’t very compressible – and they often aren’t.

I use Adobe Acrobat Ver 6 Professional to consolidate many PostScript files into one. The functionality you want to use is called PostScript program for distilling and combining an entire folder or directory of PostScript files. You first have to create individual PostScript files (each with a time stamp) and then the PS program combines them into one PDF file.

As an alternative you could print an entire workbook to a single PDF file without using the PostScript file.
