Any ideas how to save a word document in pdf format? Cheers.

To save documents in PDF format you MUST have Adobe’s PDF writer, and I think you can only get that as part of the Adobe Acrobat full install. Right now that cost about $250. It’s pretty expensive, but if you are in need of pdf files, it’s pretty much the way to go.
There is an alternative I know of right now. That is a product called Genidocs by Omtool. http://www.omtool.com It is advertised as a messaging tool, but allows users to create pdf files. Apparently, one other company is doing something similar though. That website is http://www.signitas.com, but I know almost nothing about them.
If anyone else knows of any other way of creating a pdf file from a word document, I would be VERY interested in finding out.

Some “print to PDF” alternatives:

FinePrint: pdfFactory $50 or pdfFactory Pro $100 (all Windows versions)

Zeon: DocuCom PDF Driver $50 (all Windows versions)

Archisoft: Win2pdf standard $39 or pro $78 (for Windows NT/2000/XP)

Visage: PDF Printer Driver $49 (for Windows 2000/XP)

And this is from just the first two pages of a Google search! I have tried the trial version of FinePrint (which adds a trial version footer to each PDF created). It’s fine for the quick and rough stuff I need it for.

If you just want to do this occasionally for a few documents you can actually have it done for free via the adobe website http://www.createpdf.adobe.com but obviously they want you to buy the software if you intend to do mass conversions.
I have used it for both Word and Publisher documents and have been very impressed.
