• PC Won’t Start – Odd Pre-boot

    Hi,

No doubt it’s going into the shop, but has anyone ever come across a scenario like this:

I booted up to Windows XP, and the system froze on the splash screen. After several minutes of inactivity, I did a hard reboot by holding the power button in.

Since then, it never really turns on. I hear it make the first few sounds towards booting up, but then it immediately dies. Then silence for a few seconds, and it starts this process all over again. It never even gets to the point that the monitor gets a signal from the PC, as the power button on the monitor stays at yellow – never goes to green.

Computer is only 1 year old, Gigabyte motherboard, Intel Core 2 Duo, never the slightest problem before this. Any option other than taking it into the shop? Is this a power supply issue?

    Thanks for any thoughts.

    John

      John,
Well, PS seems to be first suspect. MB the second, but there are multiple other possibilities.
Can you boot into the BIOS to check settings there? Reset to the defaults as a trial? Boot into Safe Mode?

Amber power button usually means PS failure, or some other PS issue…have you re-seated all connections?
