    Hi All

As usual, one day it works, the next day… 🙁

Its a 2-month old Gigabyte M/B in a 3yr old machine, with a Dual-Pentium CPU + 2GB RAM running happily with Win7, and has been since I put the new MB in (the old one was dead – no power, nada).

Press power button, lights, fans and HD’s all start working, but the screen stays blank (doesn’t even come out of standby).

It sounds like the HD is booting up, but with no visuals I can’t tell.
After about 1 minute, PC shuts down, then restarts.
    Cleared BIOS, no change.

Thought maybe the old PSU was straining (its old-ish, and new MB has 24pin power, old PSU has 20pin – but googling said that’s OK, and its worked fine for 2months), so tried the (big beefy) PSU from my main desktop – same result, so not the PSU.

I presume it is the MB, but dont have a spare to prove it.

If it _is_ the MB, I can return it to the vendors, but I need to know for sure that is the problem.
I could take it to a shop for diagnosis, but if it just confirms what I suspect I’m £45 down (pricey in Bath!).

    What to do!

Oh, and its not the main house PC, so no panic to get it sorted.

    Any ideas greatly appreciated!

Are you able to get into the bios?
Are there any audible beep codes sounded?
Is anything at all coming up on the monitor?
Integrated motherboard graphics, or add-on PCI graphics card?

Go back in and make sure everything is seated correctly and all power cables and connectors are snug in their sockets,
including you monitor & GPU card if applicable.
Check your fans and confirm they are working correctly, especially the CPU fan. Ensure adequate ventilation and that
      nothing is overheating.
Eyeball board to check for damage, including pins and rear connectors for your monitor etc.
Remove all but 1 stick of memory and check for p.o.s.t.. Remove Hard drive and check for p.o.s.t.

Gygabyte should have a 3 year warrenty, in most instances.

The graphics are on-board, so no adaptor card.

Screen does not come out of standby, so can’t see anything – BIOS, bootup, etc.
Screen works fine on another PC.

All fans are working, parts seated etc.

Tried with nothing plugged into MB, same effect – seems to power on, but no screen.

Don’t want to take it to a shop, but it’s starting to look that way…..
I may just send the MB back and see what happens anyway, they can prove it themselves.

Do you have a cheap graphics card you can install?
It could be some part of your onboard graphics that is malfunctioning.

If all else fails, I’d give a Gigabyte rep a call, your still under warrenty and
they may have some additional suggestions.
