• PC-cillin vs Firefox 2.0.0.2

I started the update to Firefox’s latest update, before it was completed PC-cillin came up and said “An apllication is trying to access the Internet. Decide whether to allow or deny the conection.” More info revealed the application was Firefox, Port:80, Protocol:TCP.
The Remote Address: 207.46.245.33, The File Version: 1.8.1.2.200702197.

I clicked yes and the question kept returning and would not go away. I had to shut down the FF update, close PC-cillin and the FF installation continued. I opened PC-cillin’s main window, but the only place that mentioned FF was in the Personal Firewall logs, dated 2/24.07 where FF is named as the application. The Description: Security rule matched.

I was looking for some place to allow FF to access my network without interference from PC-cillin. Is there a place to fix this? The message has not appeared again since I restarted my Firewall. Is there a fix for this or could it have been a one time occurrance?

Many firewalls now detect changes to applications and treat the changed version as a new application you have not yet approved. Some also pop up a prompt for you to approve the changed version (other just block it). In the case of the PC-cillin 2007 warnings, many have a checkbox to remember your decision so that you don’t see them repeatedly. Hopefully you can find that, or something like it, the next time you update.

Version 2006 has no such warning, nor anyplace I could set it to let the game it blocked work. I tried a lot of things to see if I could fix it, like installing Java again. Nothing worked until I closed PC-cillin, than I was back in business. I’m going to change programs, I think PC-cillin is trying to make me upgrade and I won’t be bullied by a tool.

Trend Micro is offering a free upgrade to 2007 from 2006.A friend across the hall sent me the notice but I deleted it as I am already running 2007 on all my computers. I will see if Scott still has the email and post the link next week if available.

I think she already knows about it, from this thread: post 614,624 a few months ago.

Very good, I sure hope it can be found. Thank you very much.

I see that in that older thread I referenced, none of us ever showed the URL for doing the 2006 to 2007 upgrade. I believe this is the link that should help you out, if you want to do the switch. Just remember that your license will “expire” at the expected date as I said in that earlier thread:

A quote from that web page (the BOLD is mine):[indent]

Note: To transfer your current Personal Firewall Profiles and Exception Rules to PC-cillin Internet Security 2007, do not manually uninstall PC-cillin 2006. The installation program of PC-cillin Internet Security 2007 will automatically remove version 2006 from your computer. It will also use your PC-cillin 2006 serial number so you do not need to purchase a new one.

Thanks Al, I Solution Details. I’m afraid it’s too late to obtain the free upgrade that was offered me some time ago. My Serial Number expired a couple of months ago, which I refused because it demanded that I remove NOD32 before the installation would continue.

I am now ready to reply to that demand but I will have to purchase version 2007, I’m afraid.
For your information, Belarc has a new version – 7.2 k, spread the word.
