I received KB4471419 that Susan mentions in her Win 7 Countdown, but is there a KB number for the Service Stack update she says must also be installed when we get the all clear?  In addition to 1419, I also received the Security Monthly Rollup…just those two.

The Servicing Stack update is KB4490628. It has to be installed exclusively (by itself) and will not show up in the Important Updates queue unless/until there are no other pending updates in the queue.

Any word yet on if the Win 8.1 security-only updates are safe to install soon? I got another PC developing a Linux install just in case I need to abandon ship.

I am no longer an active member of the forums.

Thank you, PK Cano.  So, once we get the OK to install the current updates and install them, the Security Rollup and KB4471419, then the Servicing Stack update should show up.  Do we need to get the OK for that also or just go ahead and install it?

The patch guidance, when it comes, will apply to all the March patches.

I followed Woody’s sequence in Windows update of hiding KB4474419 Security SHA-2 update and KB4490628 Service Stack update appeared. Installed 4490628 and rebooted  on 3/16/2019, and 44744719, and rebooted on the 3/17/2019, with no problems noticed. I do not recall anything being said prior to yesterday that neither of these should be installed.  Today’s (3/18/2019) newsletter 16.10.0; Susan Bradley mentions to wait on both of these updates.

      1. Did I miss something being said not too install either of these?
      2. Should I delete these and reinstall later on?
      3. Or should I hold tight and hope all goes well? LOL

Be easy on me as I am a Windows user and not a programmer. I’ve lived thru Windows 95, 98, XP, Vista, and 7. I’m not an expert nor do I claim to be one, but want for my system to work without problems.

      Please advise!

If you are not having any problems, you don’t need to do anything else.

I too would very much like to know how we’re getting this nagware notification so i can head it off at the pass – microsoft, you DO NOT need to tell me, i am well aware and i do not trust you that i won’t be stealth upgraded to win10. Fool me once… So, as soon as someone knows more about this nagware and any potential payloads contained within please let us know.

I’m just extra cautious these days.  If they are on and everything is fine, leave them on.

Latest SSU for any Windows version should always be installed, without any delay or questioning at all 🙂
