    Patch Lady here and so far (with a few exceptions like the SQL update) I’m not seeing any major trending issues with the August updates. Mind you that

      It was my understanding that for Windows 7 group B, KB 4345459 replaced KB 4338823.  Is this not the case and both patches are needed?

      • #212620

        I installed first 8823 and later, goaded by MrBrian, decided to experiment a bit by installing 5459 as well. The good news is: there are no bad news. The PC is fine, I am fully patched through July (except for .NET) and life is sweet.

        Also: Thanks, Patch Lady. I prefer to wait another two weeks, in case something unwelcome comes up and is revealed by the pitiful cries of those caught in its jaws. Then, if all is quiet, as I always have done for the last twenty years, I’ll shout “Geronimo!” and patch.

          @OscarCP

          I’ve done a few searches for a post regarding involvement of MrBrian and KB4345459 and KB4338823 but cannot find anything. Would you care to enlighten/ share with us the implications and dialogue, as I would really like MrBrian’s knowledgeable input on this before installing these patches. thanks

          MrBrian is a highly regarded member of this site that I have followed from well before he became a member of askwoody. His technical expertise was highly appreciated, selfless and thorough. One thing that bothers me is, it is highly unusual for Mrbrian to ‘goad’ anyone.

          Our Win7 64bit systems have not been patched yet, as per Woody’s Defcon system for July/August and would also appreciate your reply on your findings of these two patches.

      @Woody: what month does the MS-Defcon shown at the top of this page relate to? Is it the current month only? If not, it would be useful to show which month it is related to.

      The status is real time, not patch month related. Currently it’s 2 so if you’re unsure, don’t patch yet.

      cheers, Paul

        That’s exactly correct.

        Look for a change in MS-DEFCON level late this week – unless something weird pops up.

      New problem on our 2k16 servers. Our monitoring tool showed it couldn’t load/show some devices, and all of them were 2k16 servers. Checked the eventlog ang got following error:
      “The application-specific permission settings do not grant Local Activation permission for the COM Server application with CLSID {D63B10C5-BB46-4990-A94F-E40B9D520160}

      and APPID

      {9CA88EE3-ACB7-47C8-AFC4-AB702511C276}”

      Anyone having the same issues, and maybe a solution?
      Microsoft support suggest to ignore the error and conceal it in the eventlog, but that’s not a solution IMO

      I’m on Win 8.1, Group A, so I’ll install the August rollups & other patches when the time is right. However, since I usually don’t download from the Microsoft Update Catalog, a question about KB4345424. Microsoft says the fix refers to “… when you run network monitoring workloads”, “… the restart of the SQL Server service…”, & “… when an administrator tries to stop the World Wide Web Publishing Service (W3SVC)”. Since I’m a home user who doesn’t run network monitoring, use SQL Server, or W3SVC (not sure on the 3rd, since I don’t run a website, & only post to forums or blogs I’m a member of), can I skip this? I usually run in admin mode since nobody else uses my laptop, but I’m not a business administrator like you & your usual target audience.

      Bought a refurbished Windows 10 64-bit, currently updated to 22H2. Have broke the AC adapter cord going to the 8.1 machine, but before that, coaxed it into charging. Need to buy new adapter if wish to continue using it.

      Hi, we’re on Win7 and haven’t patched since 12/2017. Is it safe for us to patch now? Is there anything special we need to install other than updates found via Windows Update? Thanks and keep up the good work!

      • #212665

        Keep an eye on the MS-DEFCON level, once it reaches 3 or >, then instructions will be given.
        In the meantime the following advice by @kirsty should be read: #211686

      For those on Office 365 you can install the July click to run at this time. I am seeing one issue with the August click to run here:

      https://www.askwoody.com/patch-list-master/

      That issue was caused by a June update, fixed by a July update, and doesn’t exist with the August update:
