I wonder how much more second-class treatment “perpetual” Office customers will tolerate.

Of course:

Security updates are included, but you won’t get new features that are added to Office 2016. Upgrades to major releases aren’t included.
What’s the difference between Office 365 and Office 2016?

Shouldn’t that have been considered before they purchased a static product?

Not entirely. There’s always the free Microsoft Office Online. I know, it’s a stripped-down version of the real thing. But it probably has enough functionality for most people.

I recently installed 2016 Office for Home & Business (not Pro) C2R and left updates turned OFF.

How do you change to Semi-Annual, non-monthly updates version???

Does that apply to my particular version?

Step by step novice details please.

When switching to semi-annual, per Susan to para phrase Office 2016 basically “reinstalls.”

Does this have any affect on existing Outlook profiles, connection settings, or the outlook.pst storage file (currently stored emails, calendar events etc?)

I don’t know the answer to that one. I only have Office 2010 persistent and have not used C2R.

Do you know where the Outlook.pst is stored on your computer? All that information should be in the same location/folders. I am going to guess somewhere in AppData under Roaming or Local (maybe both). I have reinstalled Office – first noting the location then copying off the folder(s) in case they get wiped. In the past (not C2R) the email, contacts, and account info were all in the .pst file.

Once I got the folders copied and before I changed anything, I just experimented. Add and email – see what file date was changed, add a contact – see what file was changed, etc. But again, I’ve never seen C2R’s layout.

Maybe someone else can answer your question directly.

mean that the Office 2016 program literally uninstalls then reinstalls? Or, does it just change certain install/registry information to inform MS that it is semi-annual?

Is the changeover, quick like a minute or two, or are we talking 5-10 minutes total?

Susan in your Master Patch List you have KB4284826 and KB4284867 for Windows 7 listed as Safe to Install. Please note that is not true if you use an “Xbox Wireless Adapter for Windows” with your Win 7 Computer

If you use an “Xbox Wireless Adapter for Windows” to connect your Xbox One or Xbox 360 Wireless Controller to your computer installing either KB4284826 (Rollup) or KB4284867 (Sec-Only) (and I DID try both updates) breaks the Wireless Adapter and your Xbox Controllers will no longer function at all.  You get an red exclamation point shown on the Xbox Icon in “Control Panel / Devices and Printers” every time you turn the controller on and your controller will no longer be listed or function at all.

Note that both Windows 7 and Windows 8.1 use the exact same drivers for the Wireless Adapter so it may get broken in Windows 8 as well.  I tried removing and reinstalling the drivers from Windows Update (which gets them from the update catalog) and it did not correct the problem.  I do not know if uninstalling the updates will return normal operation as I just rolled back using a pre-update disk image to get my adapter functioning again.

After the KB4284867 induced breakage of the Wireless Adapter on my gaming rig ( an X79, Sandy Bridge-E, Win7 X64 HP box) I installed the Xbox Wireless Adapter on 2 other systems (a Haswell, W7 X86 Pro box and a Skylake, X64 Pro box) as a test.  The Adapter and Xbox One Controller functioned normally before KB4284867 install and Adapter/Controller breakage was 100% post KB4284867 install.

Just a heads up Susan.

A week 3 “Patch Thursday” Cumulative Update KB4284830 for Windows 10 v1703 has just come down the Windows Update chute.  Or at least it will if do not block it one way or another.
