Sure is nice to see your information and insights here on Woody’s sight.  With the problems at Windows Secrets I was worried I’d miss out on your helpful and timely information.  Thanks for your continuing help each month.  You and Woody together is an unbeatable combination!

Excellent format to show the operating systems and whether we should install or not.  Thank you.

My servers in WSUS are asking for KB4074837.

I know you say it’s optional but any reason why i shouldn’t install it?

@anonymous:   I have tried to edit the above msg. to remove it, as it is “off-topic”, however I have been unsuccessful in doing that.   Tried to send it to the trash as well, and was also unsuccessful, so all I can do is apologize for this error, and log-out.   My apologies.  🙁

      There’s a typo on the chart. KB4074621 is for 2008 SP2, not for 2008 R2. 2008 R2 has supported TLS 1.1/1.2 for RDS for a long time.

      Also KB4056448 is for 2008 SP2 not 2008R2.

Glad to see that Susan will be contributing here….followed her @Windows Secrets.

How will Woody and Susan reconcile their opinions on when to update (Defcon)? Right now I can see where Susan seems to be ok’ing the install of certain items while we are still @ Defcon 2. I’m curious how this will work.

Excellent question! I’ve been wondering that myself….

Susan and I approach patching from different points of view. Susan’s very experienced with business installations, while I don’t claim to know much at all about update servers and the like. On the other hand, I’m a dummy kind of guy, and SB ain’t no dummy.

I plan on sticking to the MS-DEFCON system as a general, all-purpose, individual-oriented guidepost. Susan will continue with her tables of patches with individual recommendations.

If you feel comfortable working through individual KBs, Susan’s advice is (and long has been) the best in the biz.

If you’d rather wait until the coast is clear, in general, then stick to the MS-DEFCON system.

        Make sense?

We just got a post from ifubiok:

Don’t install KB4074805 if your running Quickbooks 2018 Pro Desktop. Had to uninstall .NET and reinstall 4.71 to get QB running again.
See this message from Quickbooks at https://community.intuit.com/articles/1460106-quickbooks-desktop-won-t-open-has-stopped-working-or-not-responding.

“Microsoft released preview update KB4074805 for .NET Framework which appears to have caused the error “QuickBooks has stopped working” when opening QuickBooks.   Intuit and Microsoft are working together to resolve this issue.  Sign up below to be updated when there is a resolution.  In the meantime you can talk to your IT professional and uninstall the Preview update KB4074805.”
