The mapped drives issue has been occurring much more frequently for the past few days (since Tuesday) at the office. Starting on Tuesday, hours of work have been lost due to lost connections and corrupted files when file recovery is attempted. Total cost during the past few days? At least $8,000 dollars in terms of employee time since they lost hours of work. All but two computers are Windows 7. The servers are 2012 and 2008 R2. The mapped drives issue has been occurring from time to time during the past several months. This issue exploded at the office, starting this last Tuesday, and has been ongoing.

How does this relate to 1809?

If you are on Windows 7, this isn’t the same issue.  Are you using group policy or any other mechanism to set mapped drives?  Also it may be an issue with network switches or cabling.  Bottom line it may not (and probably isn’t) the same root cause.

I am running iCloud for Windows 7.6.0.15 which does not appear to have a problem.
It may be the latest version only which is problematic.

Oh, nice! Window and border transparency are back?oh, c**p…

      • #233999

Just FYI… With suitable tweaking and augmentation glass and borders can actually be added back to any post-Win 7 version, and done in some ways arguably better than what Microsoft put out. I’d probably never have adopted Win 8.1 but for this handy tool. I’ve donated to the developer several times for all the years of eye candy.

there’s only “transparency” for the 1809 version of Windows 10 but not for older releases such as 1803, 1709, etc. which is kinda disappointing 🙁

This is nothing short of unprecedented.

Although I’m no big fan of Friday night news dumps, the fact that MS is doing this at all astounds me.

Yes, this is astounding, yet perhaps not for the simple reason which everyone is thinking of — the return of Aero. Do you all recall that years ago with Metro in Windows 8.0, Microsoft did some sort of licensing agreements with third parties such that the third parties would be able to assign specific Metro color themes for their applications? I do vaguely recall that. This might also be why Microsoft announced, after the Sinofsky Windows 8.0 fiasco, that “Metro is here to stay” (or something like that) for Windows 10 — as in Microsoft had to honor those licensing agreements! My guess is that Microsoft has finally realized that virtually everyone hates the incredibly dull early 1980’s style of Metro. The only possible way to make Metro look any duller would be to view Metro in gray scale instead of in color.

iCloud.com never has worked well with Edge browser. pretty sure BootCamp is having issues with 1809 as well from what I have read. Possibly some driver issues or maybe its just a older BootCamp version? Mostly with new MacBook Air so maybe this is more the T2 chip causing the issues?
