Truly, “We will see what wee will see.”

It kinda reminds me of that old comedic video satire of a corporate PSA that finished with the lines:
“…and after listening to all of your concerns about the environment, we came up with…this multi million-dollar video. Thank you.”

      Fingers crossed.

Please do watch the video — and then see my reply for this self serving video dribble which tries to blow smoke up my *** by trying to convince me to continue to love MS under Nadella’s reign, under which the plebs do not matter. Come to think of it, this MS video on YouTube gives all of us a separate forum (via YouTube comments) to voice our issues about Windows and the continuing flawed Windows Updates. Please do keep all of your YouTube comments entirely civil and polite, or otherwise MS might decide to disable comments for their YouTube videos.

Well…ain’t that special. It appears that my YT comment was instantly blocked by MS from being visible. How is that for transparency? Attached is a screen capture of my publicly posted comment which doesn’t show up publicly.

Just went to the page with the video using the link in Susan’s post. Only one comment was posted, which was dated “1 week ago”, and was a plain, positive comment thanking them for the transparency. Just above the post is the link to “Add a public comment…” which is in grey colored type. Also, when I hovered my mouse over it to click on it to make a public comment, the mouse doesn’t change to the kind showing that something is clickable. Clicking on the “Add a public comment…” statement anyway did nothing, so it seems to me as if MS has suddenly disabled public comments for their missive about transparency in patching.

        How’s that for transparency???

BTW, I visited the link with all tracking protection and such disabled, including allowing all third party cookies and having purged my browser’s cache after initially seeing that the public comment link wasn’t clickable. After doing all that, the public comments link still wasn’t clickable.

      Near speechless-

We’re constantly listening to user feedback and using it to enrich your Windows experience. We understand that transparency is key. Our goal is to provide regular updates in greater details to help your decision making and update adoption process go that much smoother.

Stay tuned… you’ll see more changes to this page, to make it an even more robust, easy to access, and user friendly experience.

Sort of like the greater visibility they gave the telemetry… you can see it, but you can’t shut it off? This is aimed at Enterprise… so the data collected on problems experienced by Home users can be used to allow Enterprise users to wait until the problem is fixed…

I’m really tired of Microsoft’s attempts to enrich my Windows experience… and I’d like my computer less easy to access by them… and friends don’t let friends use W10 with default settings!

Microsoft stopped enriching my Windows experience when Windows 8 became publicly available on or about October 26, 2012.

        • #315975

I’d go further and say that Microsoft stopped enriching my Windows experience when Windows Vista was released. Looking back, I don’t know why I didn’t just abandon Windows after XP as I haven’t liked it since.

I especially like the part in that video’s description that says “Everyone wins when transparency is a top priority”.. Microsoft.. said that. That’s pretty hilarious. I bet they don’t even believe that one!

Are you eager to get the latest update as soon as it’s available?

Once upon a time… but HECK NO, not NOW! I rushed into a Windows 8 or 8.1 update once, & it gave me BSOD’s for a few days. With help from AskWoody, I backed out the update… then started paying attention to this site & the MS-DEFCON level. I trust the Patch Lady when she says her installations for January went well. However, as she said, multiple installations benefit from that. Since I only have my 1 laptop, I’m content to wait for Da Boss Woody to bump the level to 3 or higher… probably in February. Sorry, Microsoft… fool me once, shame on you. Fool me Twice… Shame on Me!

UPDATE: Looks like AskWoody has a censor now… for the 8-year-olds, but the 8-year-olds aren’t the censors. Came back to look at this thread & discovered that my H-E-double-toothpicks-Z had changed to H***Z. I’ll censor my own posts from now on, Thank You… & have done so.

Bought a refurbished Windows 10 64-bit, currently updated to 22H2. Have broke the AC adapter cord going to the 8.1 machine, but before that, coaxed it into charging. Need to buy new adapter if wish to continue using it.

It’s always been that way. I never understood the censorship system here and it really is for children even though all of us here are mature adults. I think we can handle seeing the word “c***” even though it always gets censored unless one does it themselves. That is in no way a “bad word” and I’ve seen other silly ones too. Anyways…

You can check this for yourself if you read the Lounge Rules under Posts and Privacy…

Rule #2- No swearing. My 8-year-old reads this stuff.

My grand kids come here, too… so I’m thankful that Woody established this rule… and grateful to the moderators that volunteer their time to make sure the rules are adhered to.

          Sorry, guys…

Kudos to the patching teams for this statement of intent.

The proof, of course, is in the pudding.

We’ll be watching. As Susan says, “bring it on!”

Things got so messy that Microsoft had to create a PR department for windows update.

Seriously. That’s exactly what they’ve done.

Should have kept the Q/A dept..

How can you possibly claim to be striving for transparency when “Check for updates” automatically downloads and installs updates without giving the user a chance to see what’s coming?  No amount of PR BS is going to help.  Until they fix that and go back to letting people choose which updates they want (without having to use wushowhide), Microsoft will remain a pariah.

      • #316263

Good point. I guess Microsoft may say that updating happens automatically and requires no action by the user. Therefor  a person choosing to check for updates is indicating they want whatever is available ASAP.  That seems a thin argument but Microsoft’s official position is updating the system is  ‘improving the Windows 10 experience’. Corporately, Microsoft don’t think as we do that patching early increases the Windows-bug risk. That’s a significant cultural difference.

      • #316296

You know, I could fix that by replacing the text string “Check for updates” with “Install queued updates”. I would be happy to cash a check for one half of whatever they’re paying for all this damage control.

In both videos they claim they are utilizing resources to be sure they are aware of issues as soon as possible and will address the issues. The A.I. thing doesn’t seem to be working very well. I realized they probably now are using Askwoody instead.  🙂

Susan, thank you for keeping all of us informed, can you dust off and bring back the Pinocchio indicator for follow ups concerning the new and improved Microsoft Public Relations WU Announcements? Something like the following picture may be needed in future, or not (?)

Maybe with an “A” for good intentions?

Nope. I give MS an F. The road to h**l is paved with good intentions.

As of January 28, 2019, the 1809 patch still will not install on my machine….the same machine that all previous updates installed perfectly.  Seems the update team at M$ made a major change and are now unwilling to make it compatible with previous updates.

      • #317648

Possibly this Microsoft advice about Intel Device Audio drivers applies?

Whether it does or not, you will probably find it far less painful to wait quite some time before installing the feature update.

        • #317651

Oops, that was an old advice. Try a search for “{your make of processing chip} Windows 10 incompatibility” and restrict the results to a week.
