Paste formatting removed (97 under Win 95)

It used to be when a formatted block of text was pasted into Word that it retained the formatting, with fonts, bold, etc. Now, for some reason, it is all converted to plain text! I reinstalled Office 97 a while back, could that have made the difference? But my normal.dot file was saved from a backup, and I didn

It sounds like you’ve got something that I would like to have as an option if you can figure out how it happened: Paste Special… Unformatted Text!

Are you perhaps in normal view rather than page layout view? Nope, that won’t do it.

When you reinstalled Word, did you reinstall it up to SR-2 with the leap-year fix? Don’t know that this would make any difference either but it is definitely something that needs doing.

You could also try (with Word closed) renaming Normal.dot to Normalold.dot and see if that makes a difference with this problem when you reopen Word. If it makes no difference, close Word without saving changes to Normal.dot and then rename Normalold.dot back. If it does make a difference, we’ll need to see about moving your customizations.

Thanks, that did it! There were two copies of Normal.dot, in two different places. One must have come from a backup restore, the other from the install. Interesting! Russ

I put a button next to the normal Paste button which calls the following:

Selection.PasteSpecial Link:=False, DataType:=wdPasteText, Placement:= _
wdInLine, DisplayAsIcon:=False

Works great, saves loads of clicks
