Helped a friend set up a new HP system with Windows XP. Can not get Outlook Express to remember his password. Everytime he opens Outlook Express – he is asked for his password – the REMEMBER PASSWORD option is grayed out. We have gone to the MAIL ACCOUNT and input the password there – clicking on REMEMBER PASSWORD. But when we come back to the ACCOUNT Properties, the password is not retained. Any thoughts???

      See Q264672

FYI: deleting the key will remove a lot of website passwords and autocomplete text.
These same basic steps work for Outlook too.

Hi: Try this: Go to Tools|Accounts|Select the account|Click on Properties|go to the Servers Tab|put the password in under the user name|then check the box that says remember password|reboot. That should work. If it doesn’t then I am crazy LOL because I have a new HP too and that’s what I did. This is the fourth computer I have configured so it should work.

Sorry – been there, done that. When I go back to ACCOUNTS, the password has not been remembered or retained. I have even removed the account and added a new one with no luck. Thanks for the input.

Wait. All is not lost yet. I have other questions. Is he running Internet Explorer 60. If not, download IE 6 with Outlook 6 and re set up his account. If he has already done that let him try restoring the system back a few days. There is a new feature in XP especially with HP. You can restore the system back a day,two days, etc. without formatting any files or anything. That will fix any glitches and everything will probably work. Also, who is his ISP? The last resort is that sometimes, your ISP has to set it and then have you re set it in Outlook.

          Nancy cool
