I have a drawing that looks just fine on the screen in Visio but if I try to print it or save to a jpg parts of the drawing are missing. Any hints?

    Thanks,

Does the paper size match the drawing size? Are the missing parts of the drawing on the outside edges of the graphic?
If you check under View>Layer Properties are all the layers set to print?

If these suggestions don’t help, perhaps you need to attach the file so we can see what the problem is.

        Thank you for answering.

Yes the paper matches the drawing size, no parts are off the paper and all layers are set to print. It’s odd because some of the stuff that won’t print is in the middle of the drawing with stuff around it that does print. There are also things on the same layer that print or don’t.

The only thing I can think of is that the parts that don’t print were created by a series of fragment and union shape operations. The parts look OK though and I can fill them.

I tried to upload the file yesterday but something hiccuped, said it didn’t accept this type of file? I’ll try again.

        Nope, tells me
“Upload failed. You are not permitted to upload this type of file”

I changed the extension to .txt and it uploaded. Change it back to “Fixture Drawing.vsd” after you down load it.

        Thanks,

      Thanks,

You have a very odd page size (17″ x 11″), and the paper size is different to the display page size. If you look in print preview you will see that it is trying to fit the drawing onto 4 pages.

Go into page setup and set both the Page Size and the Print Setup to use the size of paper that you actually have in your printer. You may then need to change the drawing scale so that it fits on the page.

17″ x 11″ is not an odd page size, It’s standard B size paper used for many engineering drawings. I have the printer paper size and the page size set to 17″ x 11″ but then we have printers that print this size and I’ve done this many times before. When I look at it in print preview I only see one sheet of paper but it’s missing parts of what are in the drawing. You probably can only print A size so that’s why you see 4 sheets of paper. Even if you do have a printer smaller than the page size though it should just map the drawing to as many sheets as needed, not leave out lines.

Thanks for the education, I can see now that this was just a problem with the paper size that my printer supports.

I can see that some lines are not visible in print preview. If I add a fill to the problem shapes then they look fine in print preview and when I set them back to NOFILL the lines can now be seen in print preview.

          Most strange.

You must choose print, then under “settings” click “print all pages/the whole thing” then choose “High Quality”. Shadows and reflections will then show up.
