The model is an HP Office Jet Pro 1170CXI.

Impatient people hairout pulled the jammed paper out of the printer instead of using the correct buttons (select/Resume) to forward or reverse the roller to remove the paper.

From the retrieved paper, it looks like there may be two little pieces stuck somewhere inside. They cannot be seen nor do they come out using the buttons or removing the tray, etc. We have also tried turning it off and unplugging it to try and reset the memory. The paper feed jam message continues to scroll when we turn it back on.

The booklet says that if we can

My HP is a much cheaper model than yours and had I known what a pain removing paper jams would be I would not have purchased it.

I have a theory if its broke I can’t break it much worse. The last time mine refused to reset itself I poked around at all the movable pieces. GENTLY. The bar that is flat across the paper and lifts to stop the feed was stuck in the up position. Hope your is something that simple.

To help cut down on paper jams be sure the paper is right side up the way it comes out of the package.

Damp/humidity also contributes to paper jams. Don’t take to much paper out of the ream at one time, and keep remaining paper in its wrapper (which should be waxed).

You don’t want to start poking about in the printer if it is still under warranty. If not, some mechanically competent/confident person might have a try at dismantling it, as long as you’re prepared to risk losing the printer.

A service technician will do the job safely, but may charge more than the printer is worth!
