    Dear Loungers,

I was just wondering if anyone had made the switch from Palm Desktop to Microsoft Outlook and if so, how to get all of their addresses, events, etc., from Palm to Outlook without manually copying them all in there.

    Thank you!

I don’t have any experience with this myself, but see How to import the Address Book from Palm Desktop to Outlook.
BTW, if you have a Palm handheld, can’t you synchronize directly with Outlook?

The simplest and most complete way is to simply sync your Palm to Outlook. This implies you still have a functional Palm device.

Now, it depends on which sync conduit software you are using: Palm Outlook Conduits or Chapura PocketMirror. Over the years, Palm supplied you with one or the other.

If you have Palm Outlook Conduits, see this page: here

        Hello R2,

Well, I am a bit confused. Right now, I have a Sony Clié, which is not functional with Windows Vista. So I am going to buy a new Palm device that is functional and hotsync the new device to my computer (I have all my archives on my computer, which is fine; I just can’t get the Clié to Hotsync for some reason that has to do with the fact that Sony did not come up with a Vista patch).

So once I buy a new Palm, and hotsync it, will I definitely be able to hotsync to Outlook? I want something that will let me work with Palm Desktop or Outlook; is it better to get a model that uses Palm Outlook Conduits or Chapura PocketMiror?

I already tried opening my Palm archives in Outlook, but Outlook only recognizes .pst files, so hopefully once I get a new Palm and can hotsync I wil be able to get these files into Outlook.

        Regards,

        JMT

I believe (but am not 100% sure) that Palm is using it own “Palm Outlook Conduits” on all new models. This is the product that it installs with your new device.

If you have the Archives /Backup files on your present computer, you should be able to sync them all to the new device — with a few caveats. First, make a complete duplicate folder for all things Palm on your computer before you do anything else. Keep this as a separate backup in case something goes wrong.

When you install the new device, it will likely install the new software into your same old Palm folder. It should not touch your personal data (Archives/Backup folders). Then, when you first Hot Sync the new device, it will ask you to identify it (give it a name). If you select the name (usually your name) that you had on your old device, it SHOULD assume you want to sync all your old data to the new device. This SHOULD (or is supposed to) place all of you old data on to the new device. Once this is done, you need to change the conduits to allow you to Sync to Outlook. On your next Hot Sync, the device should write to Outlook and you should be in business.

But.. be careful how you select the conduit set-up. If you already have data in Outlook that you want to save, make sure you don’t set-up the conduit to have the Handheld Overwrite Desktop (Outlook). If you want to select “Synchronize”. HTH.
