In this recent thread we talked about Corel’s (JASC?) intention to release this new version “soon.” In spite of the fact that the two links in that thread no longer point to the pre-release (pre-order) page, and I cannot find any mention of Version X (10?) on their web pages, they must still be planning on the release. One of the elements of the early email to pre-order was a free camera strap, with an “alleged” value of $15 and mine came by DHL courier yesterday afternoon. anigrin

For those of you interested, we’ll just have to keep our eyes on their web pages to see when they make the big announcement and see if the $59 price that the email quoted is still present!

Edited, much later: I’m in a good humor and smart-aleck as well, so here’s a shot of the alleged $15 camera strap, WITH the Paint Shop Pro X advertising all over it. I guess I’ll use it since it was free and I don’t have one, but I sure wouldn’t PAY for something like this… grin

      Al,

My local Target has version 9 clearanced for $40, so I’m sure X is still on its way!

If you Google Paint Shop Pro X, the first hit I had was to the Corel page. Clicking on that takes me to a different page than what I would have expected from the search description, but if you view the cached page, it’s from Aug 22 and is the page that showed the special offer and talked about the amazing camera strap evilgrin.

It says there that the offer was only good until August 31, and that the product will ship in early September, so you’ll probably have your PSPX in a couple of weeks. You should know when it ships because that’s when they said they’d charge your credit card.

As for the camera strap…it looks like it’s black on the back side. Any way you could take it apart and turn the strap around so the black side shows?

“product will ship in early September”

Maybe around the 6th of September or maybe earlier or later?

      Al

Surely the cost of the courier was at least $15?!

      Al,

I received my copy of Paint Shop Pro X yesterday. I haven’t had a chance to use it but I did load it. I’ll report back after I get a chance to use it.
It must be a lot easier to use for the User Guide is only 106 pages long including index where as the PSP 9 User Guide is 585 pages including index.
The $1 neck strap seems to be strong but I wouldn’t use it on my Canon 20d.

It does come with Album 6 and free tube downloads. However the install couldn’t find my cable connection to download the freebees but it could find it for registration.

The software also looked for an installed version of PSP.

Will return with further updates as I use it.

      Don

Thanks for the news, Don. I hadn’t heard anything as of yesterday, but prompted by your post, I just checked the web site and they NOW mention PSP X, so I guess he’s shipping alright. To be perfectly honest, I thought that I had ordered the download version until I got that camera strap the other day. Now that I check my pre-order confirming email, it does mention DHL shipping, so I don’t know where I stand. Maybe I’ll find out today. Good luck with it…

      • #971467

Wow, you have your copy already!! thumbup I like the idea of an upgraded Photo Album 6 but did it also include Animation Shop? smile I figure when I see my charge card get hit for the cost of the software, I can start looking for PSP X to be delivered!! laugh

          Hi Skitterbug

I will be checking out the other items on the disk this evening if my better half doesn’t have plans for going out to dinner again.
whisper We are in the middle of having our kitchen redone and haven’t had the use of it for three weeks now.
Will report what else the disk contains.

        • #971624

          Sorry Skitterbug, no Animation Shop.

          • #971670

This news is very sad! I like Animation Shop and I was hoping they would update it!. yep Thanks for posting back. I haven’t seen my copy yet but I was one of the last ones to get my foot into the door for the update so they will probably have me at the end of the shipping list too! laugh

            • #971824

Yeah, I guess they have “unbundled” Animation Shop, at least that’s the way it looks on the web site. I don’t know about you, but I currently have version 3.11 installed from either PSP version 8 or 9 (don’t remember which) and the web site, if you click to download the trial of Animation Shop says it’s version 3 but doesn’t say which decimal.

By the way, I guess I did remember correctly. This afternoon when I returned home I found the download email from Corel for my copy of PSP X. If yours is also a download rather than a boxed version, you’ll be forever on dialup. The download file is 109,710,320 bytes – a BIG sucker! Their download web site wanted to install a download manager, but I declined since I have a good, fast cable connection and it only took 4 minutes 15 seconds to download.

Now, on to the installation (and the instructions DO say you HAVE to have your previous version installed).

            • #971843

According to my info ( DHL Ground $7.00 USD – with the shipping fees waved of course!) I believe that will be a delivery by snail mail! I would not want to have to download that size of a file! I would be in deep trouble on dial-up!! I don’t have a confirmation of the exact date to expect delivery yet so I guess I will just sit here and try and be patient!! Very hard….very hard……but I am trying!! Thanks for the information!! grin

              Hi Al,

Sorry I’ve been away for a few days.
[whispre] Visiting my granddaughter who just turned two.
Yes, when I installed it went looking for an installed version.
I had mine installed so I don’t know what would happen if you don’t have one.

            • #972521

Somewhere on their instructions I saw the note that if you start the PSP X install and do not have your previous installation still on-board, you should abort the PSP X install and go ahead and re-install your previous copy. So, one would presume from that a failure if you don’t do it. I must (embarrassed) admit to procrastination for the past few days as I’ve not yet installed version X. I’m in the middle of scanning 35mm slides and had gotten to some good oldies to show our son, so I didn’t want to stop that project. I think I will take the plunge when I get back home this afternoon.

            • #972889

I have a question and a comment. The question: I purchased the PSP X as a download and DID successfully download and install the product. However, nowhere in the installation process did I see anything about the (alleged) free copy of Photo Album 6 and I wonder if someone can tell me what I missed along the way. I just now tried re-starting the installer to see if there was something I ignored and I don’t see anything. I guess I’ll try contacting Corel but I just thought maybe one of you Loungers might have the answer.

The comment: The install went smoothly and I DID continue my 35mm slide scanning using PSP X without so much as a hitch. I admit that I haven’t yet taken the time to check all the Preferences to see what I need to tweak, but some of my most frequently used tools are at least in the “same place” and I was able to continue with my slides project without missing a beat. I do however, think that PSP X doesn’t LOAD any faster (as advertised) than Version 9!

            • #972921

              Al,

Here is what is on the PSP X CD.

            • #972925

Thanks, Don. Doesn’t look at all like the install screen I got from the downloaded version. I tried to run it again to show Loungers the graphic I did get, but it goes into a repair install and doesn’t show the graphic. I’m sure I must’ve done something wrong, so I await a response from my query to Corel. I was groping around on their Q&A and KB search pages and came upon this. The file name for downloading that was in the email Corel sent me is: Corel_PaintShopPro1000_EN_PREMIUMCD_Retail.exe but when I was looking at their KB I saw this filename and I am (still) confused: CorelPhotoAlbum_StandardPSPX_EN.exe because the previous name was part of a URL in the email they sent me. We’ll see…

              Al,
Check the “Update setting”, it may be checking for updates.

I forgot to comment on your point Dave, but I did check the Updates button inside PSP X and it came back with “…no updates available…” Today I’ll resort to the telephone…

            • #973305

No, I was referring to the Loading speed. Check to see if updates is being done “daily, Weekly, Monthly or Never”.

I have found that the first time it is run each day, takes longer than the following times do for that day.

It still not as long as it takes “Elements” to load.

            • #973341

Aha, I didn’t realize you were talking about Preferences, Dave. I checked mine and it’s set to check for updates weekly, so I don’t know if that’s the problem or if the load-speed ad in the initial blurb was the usual marketing hype. I guess I could do some comparison “clocking” between version 9 and X, for you’re right that I do notice that it loads slightly faster on secondary runs during the day.

While I’m in the process of making a post, let me continue my story by saying that I did resort to the telephone a short time ago and called Corel Customer Service. After a VERY LONG wait on hold, the nice lady told me that there was a “glitch” in some of the early emails for downloaders and she would send me a revised email with ALL the links for downloading the extras. As I type this respone the email has already arrived (not even 5-10 minutes after phoning). Don’t know why they haven’t gotten to my 2-days-ago online query yet, but at least they’ve fixed my problem – I hope!

Editing later so as not to bother readers with dupe email notifications: Boy, was that series of downloads a big one. Skitterbug, for you and other dialup customers, it’s a good thing you chose the mailed CD. The total size of five downloaded files is 499,301,229 bytes ! !

            • #973343

You email is in the Que and they have NOT gotten to yours as of yet. There may have been a LOT of others in the same boat.

            • #973420

Hey Dave. I did a little “non-scientific” testing on this ol’ machine and here’s what I found. After a re-boot, PSP 9 loads in approximately 36 seconds on my machine and PSP 10 in approximately 32 seconds, so I guess that’s an improvement, although not really noticeable when you’re sitting here waiting for the splash screen to go away. For subsequent (secondary) loads the times were 12 seconds for PSP 9 and 10 seconds for PSP 10. At least on my machine, I do think that the advertising was marketing hype.

            • #973049

Big Al, Check the confirmation email. Mine had licks to download Photo Album 6 as well as some other things.

            • #973079

With apologies for the slightly wide graphic, here’s the email I got with just a “little” info blacked out.

            • #973148

              Hi Al,

Looks like a phone call to the 1-800 number might be in order or an email asking, “How come you didn’t get what you paid for?” There has to be a goof up some place along the line! Mine came in a box and it had all the goodies that Don’s post 517,621 indicated and it included that crazy camera strap!! Hope you get this worked out to your satisfaction! yep

    • #973714

I checked my email tonight and found one from Corel offering various software, etc. I noticed that now PSP X Upgrade can still be purchased for $59 boxed but the downloaded upgrade version can now be had for $55. Weren’t they offered for the same price originally? I bought mine boxed so it makes me no difference but I thought this was interesting!

        Hi,

I downloaded my updates without any issues but didn’t see anything referencing the free picture tubes. Can someone point me in the right direction. I’ve already imported the tubes, frames etc. from version 8 and 9. I had hoped there would be more with this version as indicated in the add.

        Thanks,
        Leesha

        • #977021

          Hi,

While I haven’t done this either since I am on dial-up still. It looks like if you go to your PSPX application and click on the Help menu, you can then click on “download free content” and follow the dialogue box prompts. I hope this takes you to the bonus stuff! crossfingers

        • #977022

Oh – maybe even better – I’ve been digging and it looks like the “community” is a place to head to for information about more picture tubes, etc. Head to Corel website and pick your country if you need to. I had to do this the first time but not after that visit. Then pick “Community” at the top of the page! This should give you lots of stuff to check out!! See what you think? Hope this lead helps you! yep

          • #977031

            Hi,

For some reason, even though I’ve activated the program, download free content is disabled. As for the community site, I’ve been there and have those tubes, frames etc and have used with PSP9. I thought there were additional tubes with the purchase of PSPX other than the ones that came with the program.

              Hi Leesha,

I am not sure why your “download free content” choice is disabled. Maybe someone with more experience can figure that one out? But after hunting the knowledge base at Corel I’ve found the following webpage with a link at the bottom which says to “Click here to download the free registration content for PSPX” It indicates that it is 15 MB. I sure hope this is what your after? smile

            • #977177

Thank you for that link! It appears to be what I was looking for!

              Thanks again,
              Leesha

            • #977190

clapping Glad I was able to help! I did download my freebies finally, and installed them today. And now my “download free content” choice is also disabled! Interesting. I wonder if somehow when you moved your stuff from the previous versions, if that triggered something in the application causing it to show this choice as disabled? Anyway, I’m very happy that this appears to have helped you! Now to learn how to use this “new application” to its fullest potential. Have a great day!

            • #977279

Yes it did help and I’m glad that it appears the disabled section is common to all and not just my install. I tried the demo before purchasing and found some addtions that made it worth buying. I’ve been using PSP since it was shareware!!! Found it by accident many years ago and fell in love with it. I use it in conjunction with Pinnacle Studio 9 for video work.

              Thanks again for the help,
              Leesha

            • #977178

I installed from the CD and “Free content” is greyed out on mine too. It may mean that you have all that is available.
