Anyone have any relatively painless installs of WinXP?
I did a mostly clean install, not only did WinXP setup install drivers that worked for everything, but Windows Update had newer drivers for three items (including my cheeseball discontinued webcam).
So far every app I’ve installed has worked well. I even have a few old DOS apps that work fine and don’t cripple the system while running (listening to a broadband stream with WMP 7.1 and playing Cyberbox was too cool ).
My only real complaint is Windows Messenger. I could not abide it’s rudeness when it tried to start when I check my Hotmail account. Since I couldn’t find a setting to turn this behavior off, I ended up telling Zone Alarm to deny access/server rights. This actually slows using Hotmail down, because WiM is constantly trying to access the Internet. rrrr
Other than WiM, WinXP has been good to me. I’m not the only one, am I?
