AskWoody PlusJanuary 17, 2024 at 1:31 pm #2628427When i have seen this, I open Task Manager and go to the Performance tab with the graphs, and leave it running. Then when a page takes a long time to load, I can hopefully see what is slowing it down. Sometimes RAM could be maxed out, or the CPU could be maxed out by if it is an older or underpowered machine, or the WiFi tab could point you in the direction of web data transfer.
EDIT: hold on, are you talking about webpages in general, or just this forum?

ManagerJanuary 17, 2024 at 2:12 pm #2628439I can check with the hoster again, but when I checked on the partial reload issue, they said that they didn’t see anything unusual in the performance on their side.
Is it a particular post? I just tried to do a back and it was normal speed for me?

AskWoody PlusJanuary 17, 2024 at 2:28 pm #2628445I noticed some intermittent slow loading and incomplete loading last night (left coast USA, 1/16/24). It’s continued into today. Running current version of Opera on Linux Mint 20.3. Other websites work fine.
It is intermittent/sporadic, not a very big deal at least for me. And slow loading means about a minute; haven’t seen anything like 5 minutes.

AskWoody MVPJanuary 17, 2024 at 4:42 pm #2628478Using Firefox 121.0.1 I’ve had repeated problems with the thread at the link below on and off again not completely loading, but only loading maybe two-thirds of the posts. I’ve also had this happen in Edge 120.0.2210.133 as well…sporadically not loading the entire thread. OK, here’s the link to the topic in question for me:

I’m using the same version of Firefox, and the page fully loads for me in 4.32 seconds. My ISP is Xfinity cable in central Florida, download speed is 482 Mbps as checked by testmy.net.

AskWoody LoungerJanuary 18, 2024 at 7:58 am #2628630Regardless of which browser I’m using…
I’ve found any new post I want to view that’s part of a very long thread (i.e. ~100 replies or more) has always had “very noticeably” delays loading and, sometimes, requires a page refresh to properly display everything.
BTW, the above page @Bob99 refers to now has 138 replies and, like him, I’ve also started to experience issues were it sometimes doesn’t always display properly; even after multiple page refresh attempts.
Just FYI, my broadband is fiber and my connection speeds typically exceed 500 Mbps up/down.

AskWoody MVPJanuary 19, 2024 at 1:49 am #2628850I was out and about all day today, so was limited to using my phone for internet access when I needed it. 4G/LTE speed. Android 9 for the OS (yes, it’s an “old” phone) and Firefox 121.1.0 (121.0.1 derivative, I guess for Android) for the browser and EVERY page load for AskWoody was fine! Even the thread I specified as being problematic by not loading the entire thread had NO problems at all today!
I just tried it at home and had no problem loading the thread, but the page still took over a full minute to finish loading at 250Mbps download speed. It loaded, but I was still left with a little note from FF at the bottom of the page saying that it was still waiting for {tripledub[dot]askwoody[dot]com}, by saying “Transferring data from {tripledub [dot]askwoody[dot]com}…” in the bottom left corner of the window and the reload arrow was still the X mark (to stop a page load) instead.
NOTE: I had to put braces and brackets in the actual web addresses because the forum software kept injecting html to make them clickable links when I didn’t want them that way. My apologies to all!
Looks like maybe things are fixed for the most part.
Here’s a guess…perhaps it was a backbone point between those of us having page load issues and the AskWoody site in the first place all along? One way to have isolated it to that would have been if someone had done a tracert command to see how it turned out but, based upon the posts here, nobody (including me
) did. If someone did one, they didn’t mention it in their post(s).

You are right. I should have run tracert

AskWoody PlusMarch 18, 2025 at 2:31 pm #2756748I don’t like to bring this up especially at this time, but I’ve been experiencing slowness on the Askwoody site for the past three days, and it is very slow today (~20 seconds to go from page to page). I don’t get this slowness on any other websites so I thought I’d call it to your attention.
I’ve got a Fios fiber optic Internet connection with 300 bps speed. Running Linux MInt Cinnamon.

Your Latency: 89 ms16/2Mbps cable connection here, this page took me 11-12 seconds to load.
So many little complications to pop up and mess with fast connections but very few we can deal with directly.
A few tracert readouts might help us all.

We do not detect any issue at the moment (network load, server load) on the hosting level.
But it could be some temporary network issue somewhere on the route between visitor’s location and the data-center in Washington.
We are closely monitoring the server status and will notify you if any problems arise.
Thank you.”
