I need some ideas from you experts. I write a newsletter for secretaries on campus. I want to include a tip on how to include section numbers in a document, such as 1.1, 1.2, 2.1, 2.2, etc. There are different ways to accomplish this but I am looking for the easiest method. I think I still have to have them use outline numbering and also styles, which can be overwhelming for some of my users. Any suggestions?? This stems from me having to do many of their faculty tenure docs which required this format. I saw many of them actually went in and typed 1.1 and 1.2 etc on each page..

AskWoody LoungerMarch 26, 2001 at 7:45 pm #520329If you provide templates (saved as .dot files) for the documents people will be doing, and you have the styles all set up in the templates, when people base a new document on the template, the styles will be there. All you’ll need to tell them is the name of the style for the format they want. You can also have a StdDoc or similarly named template that has no boilerplate text at all but has the styles. You just have to train people to start by basing new documents on your standard template.
