I use a shaded background for headings in a Word doc. The problem is when I try to page break the doc at one of these headings. Say that I have 10% set as the background color for a line, if I create a page break at the beginning of the line with the background color I end up with a line with a grey background on the previous page.

Can someone let me know how to insert a page break at the beginning of a line that has background shading without getting that line on the previous page with the same shading?

    Thanks,

    Andy

The easiest solution is not to use a page break, but to set the Page Break Before option, either for that specific heading in the Line and Page Breaks tab of Format | Paragraph…, or for all such headings by modifying the style definition.

Another workaround can be to create a dedicated narrow style at eg. 3pt. high. and apply that at the top of the page just after the page break.
This will be almost unnoticeable on the page when printed.

We have had the same problem as you state and have used this solution for years – so far without anybody noticing or complaining / ;o)
