Hi all…. I have just received an email from a reliable friend with a PPP attachment and discover that I cannot play it despite having been able to do so for as long as I have had this present computer. Seeing I have the Office 2003 disc, is it possible to locate the said app. and download it afresh, or am I barking up the wrong tree. Can’t for the life of me understand what has happened to the PPP data that has been on the computer since I got it & which I have used many times. Thanks Dave.

ps. I have just clicked on the “Search the web” tab and got the attached screen shot, which (if any) of the options should I utilize please?

The extension is .pps, not .ppp.
As your screenshot shows, it is a PowerPoint presentation.
Do you have PowerPoint installed? You can check this by selecting Start | (All) Programs | Microsoft Office. The submenu will list Word, Excel etc. – is PowerPoint present? (It’s probably called Microsoft Office PowerPoint)
Did you try to open the attachment directly from the e-mail, or did you save the attachment to disk and open the saved file? The latter method is recommended.

(1) My oversight Hans, I knew it was a [power point presentation] which is defined by the acronym pps. but I used a third (p) instead of an s.
(2) Yes, as the attachment shows, Microsoft Office PowerPoint is listed as you stated in All Progs so I right clicked on it & [lo & behold] the anomaly caused by some MO update seems to be the problem, saying the installed version of MO 2003 is not genuine but I was assured it is and have discovered the disc which I was unaware I was given. After much sweating & help from friends, I was able to delete the macro for WORD in the STARTUP folder that was causing problems but WORD docs are still painfully slow to open. Now it seems I may have to either dig to expose the cause of this problem or just forget about using pps which, though I don’t use it much, is still most annoying. I don’t relish the idea of deleting & re-installing MO 2003, so maybe I will inform the shop owner of my predicament and see how he responds.
(3) Regarding how I open attachments, I always either copy or drag them to the desktop & scan them before opening. Any further suggestions will be appreciated. Regards Dave.

In the dialog that appears, click “Select the program from a list”, then click OK.

PHEWWWWWWWWWWWWWW, the answer to your first question is that a dialogue box does not open when I right click the
pps file, rather a message pops up saying it can’t open the file because …..(see 1st attachment.)

Yes, I traced Impress and created a shortcut to the desktop but don’t know how to use it….SORRY. Regards Dave.

Hello Hans….. I think it’s time we hit the sack -as we say here in the Uk- No I had not thought of clicking that tab so have just done so and YES there is a list of options but which one to choose I haven’t pondered it long enough to decide as I wanted to reply before getting some shut eye to say. By -sheer chance – and out of desperation may I say, I simply dragged the pps icon on to that of the “Impress” and BINGO, it opened the pps, so there is something else I have discovered by without instruction. Must retire or I’ll fall asleep at the wheel…… Many thanks Dave.

……..continued… thanks, I clicked on the tab you suggested and eventually managed to open the file but despite scrutinizing the various tabs, can’t get the song to play all the way through, it reverts back to the beginning as each picture indexes forward. This despite the fact that the “Loop” tab is not ticked, which is what I suppose it’s purpose!!! An extra idiosyncrasy is the fact that most of the words are underlined as spelling errors.

As for opening the file with “Impress”, that is straight forward but I can’t get the song to play. Pity…. because I think Barbara
is a fabulous singer. Dave.

The wavy underlines indicate that the language setting for the presentation may be wrong.
They should not be displayed when you switch to Slide Show view.

Sound during a presentation is a tricky subject…

I think it makes sense to install the version updated for PowerPoint 2007: Download details: PowerPoint Viewer 2007. In other words, I think the newer one can handle both the latest and the legacy formats.
