    If there is only one tab in the Tab Toolbar, the default is for that tab to disappear, the result being that there is no Tab Toolbar.

    I want the Tab Toolbar to always show, even when there is only one tab there. Is there a way to override this default (i.e, to let the lone tab show in the Tab Toolbar)?

      Sure. Into your userChrome.css file, add this line:

      #tabs-toolbar { visibility: visible } !important;

      If you do not have such a file, you will need to create it. In your Thunderbird profile folder, which you can find under about:profiles (enter that in the URL bar), look for a subfolder named ‘chrome’. If it does not exist, create it. In that new folder, create a new plain text file with the name ‘userChrome.css’, and put the above line into it, then save.

      Also, if you have not done so already, toggle the following pref to true:

      toolkit.legacyUserProfileCustomizations.stylesheets

      If you are not sure how to do that, just open the Settings menu, and scroll all the way down. On the right bottom there should be a button marked “Config editor.” Press that, and agree to be careful if it warns you. Copy the line above (starting with toolkit….) into the search window, and one pref should appear. If it already says TRUE, you are done! Restart Thunderbird and it should now work as you wish.

      If it says FALSE, just toggle it with the button on the right column, or double click it, so that it reads true.

      That should be it! Restart Thunderbird, and it should work as you wish.

        Also, look in the Config Editor for:

        mail.tabs.autoHide

        Mine says False and my tab bar never goes away.

          I thought there was a pref like that, but I searched for it online and in the pref editor and didn’t find it. Thanks for posting that!
