    Hey Y’all,

Yesterday I was working on a non-bootable PC. Well almost non-bootable. I finally got it to boot but it locked up quickly after that. So I booted from a USB and ran a memory test and low and behold errors upon errors, first time I’ve actually run into bad memory.

This was a Dell Latitude with a single 16Gb memory stick. Being a business laptop it was easy to get into the box only 8 screws and the back popped right off. Luckily I had 2 sticks of 8GB DDR4 hanging around and that problem was solved.

    Now to the real issues…

This machine had several configuration issues which were easily enough to fix until I came upon the MISSING Recovery Partition!

A quick google gave me the steps to get the partition properly set up including the proper ID type. But that’s where I got stumped. Supposedly the files should have been on the C: drive but not here, as several attempts at Reagentc /Enable proved. So how was I to get the proper files into the recovery partition. I ran several scenarios around in my head but all were iffy at best.

Ah, I finally thought while trying to fall asleep as is wont to happen. How about an OTT Install. So this morning I downloaded the latest W10 ISO and had at it. As you can guess this was successful! I kept everything, so nothing was lost ( of course I made an Image first!). A quick Reagentc /Info showed that all was well!

I’m finding that a whole world problems can be solved bye an OTT install and it is quickly becoming one of the first things I turn to for a balky Windows installation.

May the Forces of good computing be with you!

      How about an OTT Install.

An OTT will put it where I don’t want it. Windows RE will fix it as well as put it wherever you want it. I have mine on a 1GB partition on a separate NVMe SSD. Windows Update finds it just fine. It also has Image For Windows embedded in it.

Always create a fresh drive image before making system changes/Windows updates; you may need to start over!
