In the past few months seemingly after an office update, I would click on outlook and it would display a notice “application unable to start correctly”. I used quick repair and until today that worked to fix any issues in Office.

Yesterday, after the all clear on windows updates I downloaded and installed the Feb. updates.

Still outlook won’t open. I tried rolling back to a previous date, that did not help.

I should backtrack for a moment. the first time I tried to open outlook it gave me a message pointing to C.>system 32/\msi.dll. error code 000012f. since then I have applied all the above potential fixes with no change

Upon trying to open again, the notice now reads ‘Application unable to start correctly.

I’m hoping someone here can provide some insight so I can get this working again.

    I’m using win 10 pro v.2004

Now when i try to open it I get ‘Application unable to start correctly error c0000142.

I tried using quick repair and online repair again to no avail.

I’m out of ideas on what to do about this and could use your help.

    thanks in advance

I found one (old) article on your error here:

      https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/msoffice/forum/msoffice_outlook-mso_winother-mso_365hp/outlook-wont-start-error-30175-13/616ed18e-38ed-4019-a5fc-286e663a8c0b

Also, before you go in for heavy duty uninstall/reinstall activities, I would check to see if Office Click to Run is running in the background as a service. You can find it in Task Manager on the Services tab; right-click it and open the Services snap-in and look for Microsoft Office Click to Run in the list. Make sure that it’s running AND set to run automatically.

If that doesn’t help, an Office reinstall might be the answer.

      Hope this helps.

Thanks for responding! I checked and click-to -run was running and set to automatic. Would you know if I can reinstall Office without losing my data?

An Office re-install should not affect your data. If you are concerned make a backup before starting the uninstall/reinstall process.
