Windows 10 Home 22H2 and Microsoft Office Home 2016, Updated with Jan 9 update.

Signing into http://www.outlook.com and composing a new message, when I try to menu function copy/paste from either Word or Txt I get a box that says “Outlook wants to look at what is on the clipboard – Allow or Block”. I do Allow but when I click Paste in my message area nothing happens. Tried sign off/on and restart but same.

Same result with CTL-c/CTL-v. Anyone else having this issue? Copy/paste works fine Word to Txt or visa versa. Thanks.

Which browser? (It’s restricted by site permission settings there.)

A bunch of people had similar issues in the last few months, and one solved it for many with, “click on the lock icon to the left of the outlook URL and turn on Clipboard in permissions- problem solved.”:

Paste function no longer works in Outlook email (web version)

      Which browser?

Many thanks for the help. Yesterday it did not work in both Edge and Chrome.

Today I checked the lock icon you suggested and on Outlook there was not a Clipboard permissions listed.

On Chrome there was a Clipboard permissions listed and it was showing On but had a box with blue font that said Reset Permission. So I reset and tried to paste and it worked (and on the Web version of Outlook).

Copy/Paste is probably the most basic and oldest computer function in the world,  so it must be very embarrassing to MS that their browser and their email app won’t paste when the competitor Chrome will!!

I vaguely remember Edge showing one of those updated displays a few days ago so maybe that is where it stopped pasting.

Thanks so much for your help.

Today I checked the lock icon you suggested and on Outlook there was not a Clipboard permissions listed.

In Edge, after clicking the padlock icon, click on Permissions for this site and scroll down to Clipboard, then change to Allow. After page refresh as directed, Clipboard will then be listed as allowed behind the padlock in future.

It works fine in Edge after allowing Clipboard for Outlook.com; I just tested it.

A bunch of people had similar issues

I also had tried searching for this issue before posting a new issue but didn’t find the link you posted. I read that post and noticed the user had used ctl+shift+v to paste where I had just used ctl-v. so I tried ctl+shift+v and that also does work on Edge/Outlook/Web.

click on Permissions for this site and scroll down to Clipboard, t

Got it. I did not actually click Permissions as I thought Clipboard would appear after clicking the lock icon. Works now.

This must be something added at some point because I have been pasting to that email for decades without having to allow Clipboard permissions. Thanks again.

Ok, thanks to the above I have fixed the issue with all three problematic accounts while using edge, but I cannot seem to get it resolved in chrome. When I click the lock icon,. I get two things- “connection secure” and “clear cookies and site data”. The first just tells me i am securely connected if I click on it- very helpful. The clear cookies does as it says. Can’t find anything at all to allow pasting.

Very frustrating when things are changed/moved about with no explanation and then you have to waste time looking for a fix! Even them moving the paperclip icon for attaching files is annoying enough!

I was with Kate. None of the suggestions were working in Chrome. Then I remembered a co-workers term, “kick the tires” so I shut my hotmail tab down and reopened it. Now I can paste again

I might also add that one time I had a  large full page letter to paste from Word to Outlook and it would not paste in spite of clipboard permissions allowed. Then I tried doing it in several smaller pastes and it worked fine. So I am wondering if there is still a bug in the code that limits the size of the paste. Other than pasting a book you should be able to paste a multiple page letter without having to break it up into smaller pastes.

Once again clipboard paste to MS email stopped working.

Why does MS make such a simple thing so hard? I like to write my letters in Word with all the grammer/spelling capabilities and then paste to Web Outlook.com. In the “old days” this was just a simple matter of copy/paste, but now you have to go through this “allow” nonsense.

Anyway after struggling and (verbal #%$%^$$) for an hour I finally got it to work. I first wanted to paste to a reply. I had gone up again and clicked the lock symbol and got the three options to allow, not allow, or ask. No luck. Then tried a new compose. Again no luck. I was just about ready to type from scratch a long letter (more verbal ##$^%#$) but then I got the idea to try refresh – the circle arrow symbol – and wala it worked – paste started working.

Next day I tried again and again it would not work unless I first did the refresh. Weird.

Why can’t MS just remove this frustrating (feature?) And I see from other comments that others are having the same issue with Chrome etc.

I am not sure if this came in with the May update as I was doing this paste either just before or just after I did the update but do not remember which.

Copy/paste also seems to work fine on everything else I use it for – just email has the problem. I hope this feature does not proliferate to other uses such as copy from say Word to Excel to some other Web form.
