    I use Office 365, current Version: 1912 / 12325.20344.

A strange thing happened a couple of hours ago in Outlook. I went to check my main inbox and the view had substantially changed. No preview, and as I now know not ‘Compact’ view.

Now I have three seperate email addresses configured in Outlook and leave the program running all the time. Only two of the three Inboxes had their view corrupted. Most of the other folders were similarly corrupted.

After investigation and experimentation with Outlook view settings I was able to reset things but what worries me is that I did not do anything that should have changed the settings AFAIC.

Any ideas? As I don’t want to have to go through that again. (although I have saved the view now!)

Outlook 365 has its own update schedule not connected with WU. Did you by any chance get “blessed” by MS with an update in the background (while it was running?)?

No @PKCano, I only allow updates when I want them. Iupdated Office 365 on 25th January.

Probably unrelated to your changed view settings, but that’s not the current version since yesterday:

      Version 2001 (Build 12430.20184): January 30

Thanks @b, but Seriously, I noted that this afternoon but I won’t install it yet though.

I have today installed the version mentioned above, and it did not affect my View settings in Outlook.

I’m  having trouble with Outlook (version 2001) for the past 2 days. Suddenly, the calendar (sync’ed with iCloud) disappeared! Items which were added did not show up on the daily, weekly, or monthly view, but all were present in the list view, including those items added on my iPad!

I tried disconnecting and then reconnecting iCloud, as well as repairing Office 365. I am using the web calendar in iCloud, and can see it as an ‘internet calendar’ shared in Outlook, but it won’t easily synchronize, and I cannot enter new appointments through the Outlook interface.

      Help!

Have you tried View, Current View, Reset View on the Calendar (non-List) view (just in case it’s filtered in some way)?

        • #2326680

How were you able to switch it back? The same thing happened to me and I am unable to reset viewing.

            Hi,

Yes I was able to recover but it was a little convoluted.

Are ALL of your views corrupted? If only one isn’t, you should be able to use that as a template, save as a Custom view and apply that custom view as required.

Have you got Compact, Single and Preview standard views available in View>Change View?  Are they corrupted too?

I guess hopefully you’ll have a start point to try and recover.

            Hope that works.

I constantly have to reset my View, View Settings, other settings because new email fonts change and Show Items in Groups pingpongs all the time.  Right now they can change momentarily, other times in hours or days.  I’ve had so much support lately with 365, reloading, etc.  I think Outlook is so sophisticated and that they have lots of new support people and new software developers who don’t know the tricks or design of the original code, that Outlook should have a total replacement soon, but I’m not getting my hopes up.

Thank you for this string, I was able to take the view in my Sent Items, save as a Custom View and apply to my Inbox which suddenly changed.

        Glad that worked for you!

Two interesting things. One is that this thread popped up today and the newest post is a month ago. Second, is that I updated my Wife’s machine from 1909 to 20H2 today and the same thing happened to her Microsoft 365 copy of Outlook. Several, but not all, of the views including her inbox were changed (much larger fonts). I easily reset it by  finding an intact view then resetting all the other folders to that view.

      HTH 😎

        I think you’ve been ‘Outlooked’ @RetiredGeek!

I have to use the technique every time I create a new Folder seems to be the default.

Is that your Wife’s experience too?

It wasn’t. #2351246 was posted two hours before your post.

Hmm. Interestingly I have my settings synchronised to cloud, and Outlook 365 looks the same everywhere I log in. Do you “upload” your view settings to cloud?
Also Much larger fonts can be managed by reducing the zoom factor (150%, 125%, 100%) in Windows settings.

My outlook is somehow unchecking various option boxes. The most noticeable one is to use autocomplete for email addresses.  I like the feature but somehow it keeps getting unchecked. Do some virus checkers or levels of security setting view autocomplete as a security hazard and might be unchecking it to keep me “safe”?
