Outlook stopped connecting to gmail.com

Yesterday Outlook (Office Home and Business 2019) stopped connecting to gmail after many years of faithful service.  Now all I see is a popup box “Enter your user name and password for the following server.”  Nothing there has changed.  I hit ok and it comes back again.  I verified port information etc for gmail.  Turned off vpn.  Rebooted computer all no joy.  I can read mail in Firefox.  Just can’t get it from gmail server to my desktop.

Can you see what sort of connection you are using?

As these vendors harden email all of a sudden it just stops and the best way to fix is to set it up all over again.
