Outlook: Print Option window opens slow (1 min)

A user is experiencing a slow response in outlook, while in an open Email. She wants to get to the Print Options menu and that takes about a minute to display.

Here is what I was able to test…

When I open Outlook:

A. Right-click on an email (list mode) and click Print. Prints instantly

B. Open an email, then click on the Print Button. Prints instantly

C. Open an email. Then click on the Office Button (main menu) and then click on Print. It takes almost a minute to load the print options menu.

So if the user wants to control the print job, ie Number of Copies, or print separate pages, etc… she wasts almost a minute getting to the options menu.

I removed the Printer and re-added it. This didn’t work.

When I open a Word DOC, it print just fine. the Options page pops right up when selected.

Any clues???

Is the printer a local printer or a network printer? I’ve seen some applications behave badly when the only printer loaded is a network printer. In that case, we load a “dummy” local printer and mysterious problems seem to clear up. On the other hand, you should also make sure there are no printers that are no longer attached with print jobs in queue still. We’ve had that cause problems too.

This printer is on the network. She uses IP printing and it is in her Office so she is the only user printing to it.

I know you may suggest plugging it in locally, but that is not an option at this time. its is the way the office is setup and she is remote.

There is the same printer installed as a local printer so this satisfies the “dummy printer” suggestion.
