    Hi,

Does anyone know why and how to fix Outlook 2016 when it continually chooses the same wrong email address for Reply to and Forward of, a received email?

    Thank you in advance.

    Regards,
    Gordon (UK)

Can you give us an example of this? We need from and reply addresses of the email – not real addresses, obviously.

      cheers, Paul

      Hi, Paul.

I have several email addresses (6+) for various work related purposes.

Whenever I Reply to or Forward to ‘A’ another email address (not my own of course) as soon as I hit the ‘Reply’ or ‘Forward’ Outlook 2016 Pro Plus opens up a new Reply or Forward email and always uses the same wrong ‘From’ address selected my bunch of personal/work email addresses.

The origin of the email being Replied or Forwarded to can be any address from anywhere, the recipient (me) is gordon.xxxxxx@yahoo.uk and the Reply or Forward should be from this same address (default) but instead Outlook opens up one of my other addresses (always the same one) to send from, namely Pxxxxx@yahoo.co.uk.

I thought of deleting that email account/address, checking if that corrected the problem and then reinstating the email account. But being uncertain as to whether the emails for that Outlook account would also be wiped if I ‘removed’ it, and not wanting to shoot myself in both feet I wasn’t brave enough to give it a go.

I have tried various combinations of emails to from and in each case I would have expected the Reply or Forward to be from my ‘default’ email address (gordon.xxxxxx@yahoo.co.uk) but that is not the case.

If I click on ‘New Mail’ the Outlook opens up a default email page with the default address which is correct.

Could there perhaps be some defective registry entry that is causing the problem?

      Thank you and best regards,

      Gordon.

That must be the default address of Outlook.
It should use the address of the email, but I don’t have Outlook to test.

Does it work if you use webmail?

      cheers, Paul

My Outlook 2019 always uses the address of the email. Can’t find anything to make it do otherwise.

My experience is, that Outlook (all versions 2010 to 365) offer FROM address field, only if you have more than one inbox set in your Otlook email client. Otherwise its hidden in default. Some people in our comapany use more emails, that are added to their mailboxes from
Control Panel > Mail > Your profile > Change ..

Then I add second email address (rights must be set on exchange server)

      account-add

Then I can select, from which email I reply. Is this what you are trying to change?

I use fastmail, with 2 aliases.

since both aliases check inbox mail from the primary account address,  outlook,  not very smart software, automatically picks the primary account address to reply ‘from’, not the alias address that the email was addressed to.  so, i have to change the ‘from’ address manually when replying to email that was addressed to an alias.

I was told that thunderbird is smarter and doesn’t have the issues that outlook has.  I did experiment with thunderbird, but between difficulty moving contact data from outlook to thunderbird, and the complicated, cumbersome, thunderbird setup, i didn’t wind up using it.  i am stuck with outlook.
