Wow looks like I am the first poster here!  ; )

I am switching from a Dell Windows 10 laptop to a Macbook soon.  I have MS365 on the Dell, my Ipad and Iphone.  It works fine on IOS, not 100% like on the Windows machine, but it’s ok.  I have been using Outlook for over 30 years, professionally and personally and I like it.

I recently saw some very negative comments regarding Outlook on Mac. People saying it doesn’t work!  Is that true – are there lots of issues with Outlook on Mac, or is it like many comments/reviews where a few people are unhappy and vocal but that is not the experience for the majority?

It shouldn’t be a deal breaker for me to not switch to Mac, unless it is actually really bad.  thanks. Donna

Well its a good news Bad news Scenario, yes it works but if you’re used to the “full featured” regular Outlook as bundled in Office its a bit woefull on features.

If your using an Outlook mail address it’ll import for Rules and settings. (I havent used it with any other exchnge server)

Its better than the default Outlook bundled with Win10\11 and there are a few features that are worth having, but if youre used to Outlook (Office) it’ll be a bit of a learning curve.

Apparently (never tried it my self) you could run Office and Outlook under “Wine” as an emulation programme, but I have to say I havent seen many, if any reviews on that.

As for Apple Mail its somwhat configurable, but again some what of a learning curve if you have been used to M$ products, but they both work well once you get used to them.

Sorry I didn’t respond, been busy – thanks for your feedback. I haven’t switched yet and I hope I don’t regret it!!  I am used to full features and have used Windows, Outlook, Office, MS365 all my computer life (personally & professionally).  But, my Dell Laptop is nearly 5 years old, I am just waiting for the hard drive to fail!! (yes I have backup).  I really do not want to buy another Windows machine so……gulp! I’ll try it.

It’s not anywhere near as good as Outlook on Windows, but it’s usable.  The one thing you will definitely want to do is NOT use “New Outlook”.  Switch to “old Outlook” before you do anything else (such as import your e-mails).

Oh, and I suppose it should go without saying, but set your Microsoft Office for Mac so that it does NOT auto-update.  And back up your entire e-mail database to an .olm file on a detachable hard drive before you update.

thanks. what is an ‘olm’ file?

        • #2570298

Sorry for the late reply, but I don’t check this forum regularly.  An .olm file is the data file used by Outlook for Mac to archive your email messages, contacts, calendar items, tasks, and notes – “olm” = “Outlook for Mac”.  It’s a bit like the .pst files (“pst” = “personal storage table”) used by Outlook for Windows.
