    Hey y’all,

I’ve been working with an 80+ year old trying to get classic outlook (non-office) working on her W10 Home machine. I have the Outlook (New) block in the registry.

Outlook refuses to update since 23 April! and every time we open it we get the following nags:

    FirstScreen

After telling it to open Outlook (Old) we get this banner:

    BannerNag

Even after Dismissing the banner it still has the slider!

    sliderbutton

Even after all that, it refuses to update her emails.

Bye bye Outlook I’ve switched her to the Gmail website and all is well.
Microsoft you’re just shooting yourself in the foot. We’re going elsewhere to get “WHAT WE WANT”!

May the Forces of good computing be with you!

You used a shortcut for Mail, not Outlook.

When I click on “Open Outlook” it does.

That I am reading this using my (Android) Samsung Galaxy Tablet, and the time I spend on that tablet is about 20 fold the time spent on my Windows desktop computer, should cause Microsoft some concern. As you said, “Microsoft you’re just shooting yourself in the foot”. The attitude that “we” know best what “you” need and must have surely does not sell well in the long term. Oh, and the less time spent on a Windows computer, the less exposure to Microsoft’s  trash ads.

There is no non-Office version of classic Outlook.

        @b

Perhaps @RetiredGeek meant to type “classic outlook (non-office 365)” but, being human, simply forgot to type the “365” part of that sentence.

I have the Outlook (New) block in the registry.

      Hi RetiredGeek:

To clarify, did you wipe the “new” Outlook PWA off the system before adding the registry block to prevent re-installation?

I removed the “new” Outlook from my Win 10 system ‌on 14-Feb-2025 using Revo Uninstaller Free in Aggressive Mode, followed by the Powershell command below, before re-booting and adding the registry block. Since then I haven’t seen any trace of the “new” Outlook in my classic MS Outlook 2019 (or anywhere else on my system).

      Remove-AppxProvisionedPackage -AllUsers -Online -PackageName (Get-AppxPackage Microsoft.OutlookForWindows).PackageFullName

      EDIT:

I don’t know if it’s relevant, but I also removed the old, unsupported Mail and Calendar and People apps a few days later on 20-Feb-2025.  See my 23-Feb-2025 post # 2750767.

Yes I did remove them before the block.

Ok, maybe my memory sucks! Yes it does!

That aside, what ever app I was using it refused to update since 4/23/25 and I stand by my comment about MS not listening to it’s customers.

      Hi RetiredGeek:

Like b and Bob99, I’m not sure what you mean when you said you installed “classic outlook (non-office)“.

All MS Outlook programs bundled with Click-to-Run (C2R) retail editions of MS Office 2016 / 2019 / 2021 / 2024 have not been updated since 17-Apr-2024 when Version 2503 / Build 18623.20208 was released.  For example, see <here> for the release history of retail editions of MS Office 2024 C2R.

Yes, Windows Mail & Calendar has been a goner for quite a few weeks, now. It was only a matter of time before MS caught up and dealt with all the registry tweaks doing the rounds on the internet, claiming to prolong its life.

There are, of course, various alternative email clients available – Mozilla’s Thunderbird being the most popular one.

If you have a webmail account (e.g. Hotmail, ‘Outlook dot com’, Gmail etc.) then I find that the easiest and quickest way to both connect and use that account from a desktop or laptop is to fire up your preferred web browser and log in that way – just as webmail was originally intended for.

MC922623 – Microsoft new Outlook for Windows and Outlook for the web: Changing how to disable/enable

Microsoft is changing how to enable or disable the new Outlook for Windows and Outlook for the web. The rollout will begin in late June 2025 and complete by mid-July 2025. The CASMailbox-OWAEnabled parameter will only affect Outlook for the web, while the new Outlook for Windows will be managed with the CASMailbox-OneWinNativeOutlookEnabled policy. No admin action is required before the rollout.

Updated May 8, 2025: We have updated the timeline below. Thank you for your patience.

We are changing how you enable or disable the new Microsoft Outlook for Windows and Microsoft Outlook for the web.

      When this will happen:

General Availability (Worldwide, GCC): We will begin rolling out late June 2025 (previously late April) and expect to complete by mid-July 2025 (previously mid-May)…
