does anyone know of any tools to recover a corrupted Outlook (.pst) file? I’ve checked out http://www.OfficeRecovery.com but the free demo is worse than useless; it doesn’t recover anything nor does it even show you what it could recover. I’m not prepared to pay $250 for a piece of software I will only use once and which cannot show me that it’s going to work.

Does Office 2002 include a version of scanpst.exe, the Inbox repair tool that came with Office 2000?

As Jefferson suggested, you should have scanpst.exe installed with 2002 – and should be found in your …Program FilesSystemMapi1033 folder.
You should also find a scanpst.hlp file there – double click on it for instructions.

Presumably your .pst is under 2GB?

You can use BBCodes to format your content.
Your account can't use all available BBCodes, they will be stripped before saving.
