Every time I start Outlook a banner appears saying “Restart Office to apply changes to your privacy settings”. Restarting has no effect, the banner appears again. If I try to change my Privacy settings a dialogue box pops up saying “A restart is required” but after restarting this dialogue just appears again.

I have tried various fixes suggested online without success, including editing the Registry. While I can dismiss the banner by clicking the Close ‘X’ I’d a) like to know what is going on, and b) make it go away. This happens on more than one computer, but not with Word or Excel.

    Any suggestions gratefully received.

Do you use more than one Microsoft 365 account?

I just tested this, and it seemed to fix the problem.

In one of my Microsoft 365 accounts (so, open Outlook or Word or Excel, and go to File -> Account, and click on Manage Settings under the Account Privacy header) I had opted in to “optional connected experiences”, and in another of my Microsoft 365 accounts, I had that “optional connected experiences” checkbox UNchecked.

Now they’re both the same, and the persistent “Restart Office to apply changes to your privacy settings” notification seems to have gone away. 🤞

Restart Office to apply changes to your privacy settings – endless notices – conflicting “optional connected experiences” setting?

Thanks b, this seems to have worked. I had to change the setting in Word as I could not get to it in Outlook. After a bit of to and fro, starting and closing Word, Excel and Outlook a couple of times everything seems to have settled down. I actually have four Microsoft accounts: One for personal email, one as administrator for three personal email accounts (including my own), an Office family account, and an account for work email. I was not allowed by Microsoft and work to use the same Microsoft account for all these purposes.
