okay IT Gurus time to put your know-how to the test as I have reached the end of my tether with this problem:
    XP Pro SP2
    Outlook 2003
I use a desktop calender proggy called Rainlender which “reads” and displays appts etc in a corner of the desktop.

I initially had both mine and wife’s accounts as admins and imported my outlook data into her
account to allow her to view my calender entries/appointments etc from her
account. Actually she never opens outlook – this simply allowed Rainlender on her login to be able to read my “master” calender and display all dates/appointments/on-calls etc on her desktop.

For security I changed her to a limited user. The “shortcut” for my
calender is still there in her Outlook but an error “dont have permissions to
    expand/open” always comes up.
I tried logging in as Administrator in safe mode, clicking properties of my outlook folder
[containing the .pst] and giving her “read” permissions but still it won’t
allow me to have her access my calnder whilst she is a limited user.
I even tried doing the same thing and giving “full” permission but still get the same error.

SO – how do I manage to let a limited user access an admin user’s Outlook calender? I guess 1 solution might be to set up another profile in both logins [“shared”] and put it in a public folder BUT then I don’t know how this 2nd profile would be able to synch with mine all the time either and this is not an elegant solution either.

Obviosly I could just install MS Exchange but this is using a bulldozer to crack a nut I feel!

“how do I manage to let a limited user access an admin user’s Outlook calender? ‘
To my knowledge you don’t, she is going to have to have the “Admin” permissions to access your “Douments and Settings” folder.

        darn!
seems a major security oversight IMO.
any work-around you can suggest? The only one I could think of was [somehow] transporting all my appts into her default calender and then viewing her [“limited”] calender from my Outlook as a 2nd calender and editting that etc.

could that work? Not very elegant, I know, but….

        Hello

If the problem is with the “Documents and Settings” folder can you move your PST file to a different location that both users could see? Then she could see your PST because it is not off limits, and because you are an administrator you can still see hers in the “Documents and Settings” folder. Just a suggestion. I always move my stuff out of “Documents and Settings” folders to a second drive so that if I have to rebuild the computer I don’t loose my data and I also just backup the whole second drive.

          thanks

          I tried that as well.
I moved the pst file to my “data” partition but when I logged in as her I first got the “can’t find it” error but then when I navigated to it I got the “not got permission to open” error again

Since the PST file is in a new location, you need to re-share it, as the permission’s travel with it.

              I fixed that as well
moved the file to the other partition
              right click/properties
              untick 2read only”
click security and added user “wife” with read permissions
still got a no access allowed error

              EDIT: fixed it!
i unticked “read only” access for the parent folder but still no go.
then unticked read only access for the parent directory and it is working just fine now

              thanks
