How do I get Outlook 2000 to be able to read and write e-mail with an MSN e-mail account? I was using Outlook 2000 for all my e-mail until I got this MSN account with the MSN Explorer recently. I am not able to get my msn e-mail in Outlook. Any ideas, add-ins, third party fixes, etc. would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks,
    aap2

is this an msn pop account or web-based html account (like hotmail is) ?

check the msn FAQ pages for more information.

How or where do I find out what type of account it is? Is my e-mail address is any indication?
If so, it is somename@msn.com. The MSN Explorer 6.0 Help does not indicate what type it is. It does have some information regarding the use of Outlook Express. I perfer to use Outlook as this is where my work for the last 3 years is set up.

if it has instructions for setting up a pop account, use that to set up outlook.

at one time msn was pop then they switched to http (like hotmail is) – after some problems, they allowed users to switch back to pop. you might want to check on the msn forums and see if the acct is pop and if not, how to change it.

Hotmail, like Yahoo! Mail and others, allows users to access their mail either from the web screen OR by a POP server, so you can either/or. I personally use Outlook for both. I don’t know if MSN does this, however.
