I use win 10 with office 365. I use outlook 365 for email..
Two days ago, three things happened at once.

    1. font in outgoing emails is way too large.

    2. in ribbon, ‘view’ no longer has the sort function.

3 . in outlook, there are three panes; one is names of accounts, next is list of email and third is actual email which is selected. Until two days ago, there was a small search box at top of column/pane with list of email. Now there is no search box. There is a drop down menu to sort[like what is now missing in ribbon, as mentioned in question 2.

    My windows 10 is 1909[build 18363.778]

    Any ideas? help

Edit to remove HTML. Please use the “Text” tab in the entry box when you copy/paste

Again, I am sorry about gobbledegoop. there was a note to remove HTML by using ‘text’ rather than ‘visual’ when I copy the question.

I will do that next time.

Sort has moved to where search was, because Search has moved to the title bar:

Search in Outlook puts your results on top

The font size for outgoing messages can be set at File, Options, Mail, Compose messages, Stationery and Fonts (separately for New and Reply).

P.S. For a Microsoft 365 question, your Office Version and Build number from File, Office Account, About is more relevant than your Windows 10 Version and Build numbers.

Hello! Re: “fonts suddenly too large”: I have learned how to get it back to the size I have set (in my case: go to Format > Zoom > 100%)

But I cannot figure out why suddenly in the last month or so, the font becomes too large right in the middle of me working on an email!

I would like to stop this from happening, even though I know how to fix it after it happens! Any ideas how to stop it from happening?

        Thanks for all your help.

        • #2390369

And Ctrl + mouse scroll wheel can do the same zoom up/down, so it’s possible to set a large size inadvertently.

          • #2438376

THANK YOU SO MUCH!!  The Control Scroll just saved my life.  I was about to lose my mind trying to figure this out.  TY!

          • #2438445

…And CTRL + 0 (zero) resets the zoom (and font size).

            Regards, Phil

Thanks B, this fixed it. I could not figure it out! I did the stated the fix above by going into Mail, Stationary, etc. Did not fix it. I have a very sensitive scroll on my mouse and must have enlarged it. To 580%!

Thank You, so simple, I tried all kinds of other stuff without luck.

          • #2610729

Thank you so much. I had tried everything and thought I had found everything over the last week, to no avail.  The control key plus wheel on mouse is what solved this.  This was a total sanity and life saver and I thank you for posting it.

Thank you so much!  Control and a 2 finger mousepad drag worked for me.  I was pulling my hair out with this – thank you.

Sorry, I did not know how to find the Office 365 info..

Thank you for that. my version seems to be=MSO [16.0.12730.20144]  It seems I can’t copy and paste the office info from that page.

      1. RE. size of Fonts. I have the size set up to be 14 pt. in that section. BUT in last 3-4 days, it shows up as about one inch tall letters. I don’t know why this has happened.

Looking at the page you sent, it does not look like my issue is solved.

      2. The picture on that page shows: ‘view’ listed on top line of window, just under the blue line.

      3. The page also shows a search box above the list of emails. That search box is what is missing in part 3 of my question.

I appreciate your help, but I don’t think you have solved the issues.

They all appeared at about the same time.

Do you not have a View tab in the ribbon at all?

I appreciate your help, but I don’t think you have solved the issues.

The first screenshot on that page shows how things used to be, because it’s demonstrating Coming Soon switched off (at top right, under the Close X).

The second and third screenshots show how things should look now, with Search on the title bar (just after the Quick Access Toolbar) and Sort options just above the list of emails.

Is there any particular function you can’t perform?

    • #2261050

Sorry. You are right. i do have ‘view’ on ribbon, it is just that the sort function is not there.

I guess ms has changed it to have it at top of pane with list of emails. It says ‘By Date’

and you are right the Search function is no longer at top of list of emails, but is at top of entire ‘outlook page.

They must have changed when MS sent a new build.

Now having found the ‘about’ in Office, I showed you the build Number as

MSO [16.0.12730.20144]    When I found this page https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/officeupdates/update-history-microsoft365-apps-by-date  it shows updates ending in 20152,. This is in monthly updates. I guess I need to get newest update.

So both of those problems are not problem but FEATURES. I hate when windows and office do these thing. Especially if ms does not tell you

I will have to update office.

Going back to the ‘too large’ font; when I sent myself an email, actual email shows proper size of font. But when writing it, is when it shows as about an inch high font.

Any idea how to fix that. It is disturbing to only be able to write a few words before the apge is full.

I am glad it does not send the large font.

      Again, thank you.

    • #2261056

I did try to update office. It seemed to try, but stayed at the one ending in ..44

      No idea why?

    • #2261229

MSO [16.0.12730.20144] When I found this page https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/officeupdates/update-history-microsoft365-apps-by-date it shows updates ending in 20152,. This is in monthly updates. I guess I need to get newest update.

I can’t find either Build 12730.20144 or Build 12730.20152 in the release history.

So both of those problems are not problem but FEATURES. I hate when windows and office do these thing. Especially if ms does not tell you

I will have to update office.

Moving the Search box to the title bar was not well announced and is not very popular:

The new Outlook search in the title bar is disconnected from the content it searches

Going back to the ‘too large’ font; when I sent myself an email, actual email shows proper size of font. But when writing it, is when it shows as about an inch high font.

In the New Message window, click the Format Text tab, then the Zoom icon at the right end of the ribbon; reset Zoom While Composing to 100%. If that is set at 110% to 500% then text will appear larger for subsequent messages until reset. And Ctrl + mouse scroll wheel can do the same zoom up/down, so it’s possible to set a large size inadvertently.

Hi, That was great, about the font.
in the message, it was set fro 428%. Great. thanks.

Re: the build, I went to outlook/file/office account/about outlook
the entire line says  “Microsoft Outlook for Microsoft 365 MSO [16.0.12730.20144] 32-bit”
I don’t know, but I guess it doesn’t matter that the version I have is not listed in

      https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/officeupdates/update-history-microsoft365-apps-by-date

I really appreciate the help about the search and the font.

      Thanks

That is where I saw a build in May that ended in

Anyone who had this happen recently (2021) – disable “Immersive Reader.” Look in the top right corner. View will return to normal. 🙂

Immersive Reader may affect text spacing, but I don’t think it affects text size.

      • #2410963

Thank you a lot. That suggestion helped me.

      • #2571051

great suggestion on the Immersive Reading setting, thanks

    • #2439678

open any received email , click on right top “message ” to open the box  , there is an icon says “immersive reader” click on it , that’s it !

Had this issue.  Ended up being as simple as going to Ease of Access and adjusting the slider for “Make text bigger” just off the very bottom and hitting apply.  Magically reduced all of my Outlook and Office 365 icons back to their smaller size.  I had to close some applications before it was effective.  I CAN WORK AGAIN!!!!!

      • #2487155

That did it for me thanks so much Ease of Access … ughhhh

    • #2576932

go Settings /Accessability / Text >>>  1. Max the text and click apply.

      2. Make text as small as possible and click apply.

The text will return to normal and then you may adjust it to the size of your desire.

This has started happening to me.  Go to settings for your computer.  Text size.  Make it 200% and apply.  Then go to 100% and apply.  It will then “stick” at your normal font size.  Don’t know why but it works.
