    We use Outlook 2024 (Microsoft Office Home and Business 2024) to send and receive email.

    Email is sent via an independent service provider other than Microsoft.

    Several days ago, we began to run into a problem.

    • We click on New Message,
    • The message screen opens showing our default From email address,
    • We enter the recipient’s email address in the To line,
    • Then we enter the Subject text,
    • Then enter the message, and
    • Click send.

    However, after sending the email a second email address is added to the From line in the email that is delivered to addressee.  In our case the second (suspicious) email address is the address we used to setup the Microsoft account for some of the software on the computer.

    Does anyone know how to prevent the second From email address from being entered onto outgoing email.

      Just went into Outlook’s Account information – Account Settings, Email Accounts and then clicked on the Account Name that is giving me the problem outlined above.

      When I go into Change Account, I see that the Email Address listed is the address that I am having a problem with not the email address that I originally assigned to the Account.

      I will change the Email Address back to the one that was originally assigned to the account and see if that fixes the problem.

      If that does not work, I will remove the problem account and reinstall it.

      It looks as if Microsoft switched the original email address to the address that is on my Microsoft Account.

      Just removed the problem email account from Outlook 2024 and then added it back using the proper configuration.

      All appears to be working as it should.

      Still have no idea how the problem account was corrupted.

      Now I will have to recover my calendar and contacts from .pst files that I exported to an external drive earlier today.

      It has been a wild and winding road to restore Outlook 2024 to how it operated before it started (on its own) to include the email address I used to register the product (microsoftgotohell@XXXXXX.com) in the From line of all outgoing email.

      During my first attempt to fix the problem, I got rid of the problematic account by going to Account Settings from within Outlook and simply Removing the account. The fix solved the problem of microsoftgotohell@XXXXXX.com being inserted in email From lines but then I had problems opening my Contacts and Calendar.

      What I did not know, at the time, is the Outlook 2024 stores all user data on the system drive and the data is not deleted when you remove an account.

      To fix the problem, I had to clear classic Outlook’s cache. The method that finally worked involved:
      • Going to Outlook 2024’s Account Settings and Removing all email accounts;
      Clearing classic Outlook’s cache by going to Outlooks Account Settings > Data Files > Open File Settings > and then deleting all Outlook related files.

      I then added the deleted accounts back into Outlook and then restored the Calendar and Contacts data back by recovering .pst files that had been backed up onto an external drive.
