    We just installed Outlook 2024 (Microsoft Home & Business 2024) and setup two IMAP email accounts.

    We are now trying to import our contacts and calendar .pst files that were exported to an external drive from Outlook 2021.

    To import a calendar in Outlook 2024 we have:

    • Clicked on File;
    • Clicked on Open & Export;
    • Clicked on Import/Export;
    • Selected “Import from another program or file” and clicked Next;
    • Selected “Outlook Data File (.pst) and clicked Next;
    • Selected the .pst file to import, chose Replace duplicates with items imported and clicked next; and
    • In “Import Outlook Data Files” selected the default folder “Outlook Data Files”, “Include subfolders”, “Import items into the same folder in:” selected the primary email account, and clicked Finish.

    The problem we are experiencing is that the downloads appear as Outlook emails with the calendar data – not calendar entries.

    And when I go into the calendar it is empty.

    I have done an extensive web search for instructions on how to import a calendar but the online instructions have all resulted in failure.

    Any thoughts as to what I am doing wrong?

      I do not know how I did it – but somehow managed to get my calendar into Outlook 2024.

      Simply stated how I did it is a it is a mystery –  keep hitting buttons until it worked.

      Will now use the same approach ti import Contacts.

        I don’t use the Outlook calendar, but I do import and export contacts sometimes.

        To export, Open Outlook, then File > Open & Export > Import/Export > Export to a File > Comma Separated Values.  Save the .CSV file.

        Then to import do the same thing in your new Outlook 2024*, but instead of Export to a File use Import from Another Program or File > Comma Separated Values, then choose the .CSV file you had previously saved.

        *I haven’t used Outlook 2024, but this is the way I have done it with previous versions.

        Cheers, Paul

      Most interested in how you accomplish these transfers as I will be faced with installing MS 2024 Home and Business on my new computer when it arrives in the next couple of weeks.

      I’m using POP so I will additionally need to transfer all my existing emails into the new App.

      If I recall correctly, this is/was done back when I set up my current 2016 Office by copying the old existing Outlook.pst file and then replacing the new Outlook.pst folder with the old .pst folder.

      On second thought, the 2016 Office was set up, as suggested by MS at the time, as 32bit. Would there be a problem if the 2024 Office was set up as 64bit as respects these transfers/exports-imports?

      Good Luck on installing MS Office 2024 Home and Business on your new computer.

      Are you purchasing the PC already assembled or putting it together yourself?

      Assuming that you are buying a Dell, HP, etc. computer make sure that a trial version of Office is not already installed on the machine. If it is use Revo Uninstaller Pro or similar app to completely remove Office and any other bloatware that comes with the machine.

      Then backup all the outlook files that are on your old computer to an external drive by:

      • Clicking on File;
      • Clicking on “Open & Export”;
      • Clicking “Import/Export”;
      • Choose “Export to a file”;
      • Choose “Outlook Data File (.pst)”;
      • Select the folder you want to export from (Inbox, Sent, Calendars, Contacts, etc.)
      • Select the external drive you want to save the selected folder(s) on;
      • Select finish.

      You use the same approach but backward to recover your data in Office 2024.

      I strongly recommend doing an exhaustive search of the web for a more comprehensive set of instructions for setting up Office 2024 on a new computer.

      Plan on spending hours setting up Outlook.

      Good Luck

        Are you purchasing the PC already assembled or putting it together yourself?

        Having built by Maingear (for business/office vs gaming). They utilize name brand quality parts and do not install any bloatware software/or limited trials.

        It appears you followed MS & Dell’s Outlook to Outlook data transfer procedure, wonder why it did not cooperate.

        My old notes do confirm that while MS provides that visual interface other internet posters claim it to be the same thing as copying the old Outlook.pst file and swapping it in place for the new Outlook.pst since that file is reported to contain Contacts/Calendar/emails (POP).

        Unlike past times, I’m not looking forward to setting up a new Windows 11 system, but need to start the process while my trusty Windows 10 is still functioning to utilize as a template.

          For us moving to a Windows 11 PC was interesting adventure.

          I recommend a clean installation of the most recent version of the operating system (Windows 11 Pro Version 24H2), Office 2024, and any other software that you use.

          Keep track of all software related information, including Office including product key, email address used to set it up etc.

          Remember that Windows 11 does not play well with older scanners so check on availability of Windows 11 compatible drivers for your hardware.

      Several more questions if I may:

      Was your previous Office 64bit or 32bit?

      Did you install the 64bit or 32bit version?

      If you changed bitness, were there any problems with the transferred data?

      Did you install 2024 Office on new computer with a LOCAL Account?

      If so, did the requirement to have to utilize a Microsoft Account to download and install 2024 Office cause any issues? (eg: did Microsoft try to convert your LOCAL Computer Account to a Microsoft Account?)

      Did you utilize your old previously created Microsoft Account for previous Office install to download/install the 2024 Office, or create a new Microsoft Account?

      Were you able to sign out of the Microsoft Account after the Office installation and did/does it still fully function?

      Thanks

        Thanks for your run down, however I previously reviewed anything pertinent to my questions and have yet to find those answers.

        Following your trials and tribulations, I thought you may have also encountered some of the items that I am seeking answers to.

        Hopefully other members may have information to add.  I am most concerned to prevent Microsoft from taking over my new computer Local install Account on the back end once they are given an MS Account for the Office install along with an internet connection.

      A local account can only be converted to a Microsoft account by a local administrator (and can be switched back again if necessary).
