I’m not sure if a recent update started this problem, but my search bar in Outlook 2021 has stopped working properly. If I hit CTRL-E repeatedly I can sometimes get it to open and accept searches, but it no longer responds to a single click like it has for all eternity. Here’s the version and build I’m using.
    Microsoft® Outlook® 2021 MSO (Version 2409 Build 16.0.18025.20160) 64-bit
    Any suggestions?

    Thanks!

    Peter

      Hi peterb:

I’d suggest trying a Quick Repair as instructed in the MS support article Repair an Office Application, and then move on to an Online Repair if the Quick Repair doesn’t fix your problem.

If that doesn’t help let us know your computer make/model and Windows operating system, including the OS version and build shown at Settings | System | About | Windows Specifications.

Thanks for the suggestion – I tried the Quick Repair and the problem was still present. Didn’t have a chance to try the full repair until this morning – but before I ran it, I found that Search was working normally again. Most curious – I will check this out tomorrow and see if it stays fixed. If it does, I have no theories unless it’s something odd to do with the outlook.com mailbox.

        many thanks,

        Peter

          Hi peterb:

That’s good news. Be sure to post back if the problem returns.

If you haven’t already done so, I’d also advise that you permanently DISABLE your Windows Fast Startup power option as instructed in Brink’s TenForums tutorial Turn On or Off Fast Startup in Windows 10 (instructions for Win 11 users are <here>) and then re-boot a few times to ensure the setting change takes effect. The Fast Startup power option (also known as hybrid boot-up / hybrid shutdown) is enabled by default in Win 10 and Win 11 but it can sometimes interfere with the loading and initialization of drivers and services at boot-up and cause all sorts of unexpected glitches and problems with a wide range of programs, including Windows Updates. For example, see the Microsoft support article Updates may not be installed with Fast Startup in Windows 10.
