Outlook 2010 unable to download hotmail.com email; Error 80041004

I have been using Windows 10 along with Outlook 2010 for about 7 months. Over the weekend, I started receiving this error message:

xxxxxxxx.hotmail.com reported error (0x8004102A): Error with Send/Receive. There was an error synchronizing your folder hierarchy. Error 80041004.

SECOND ERROR MESSAGE:

xxxxxxxx.hotmail.com reported error (0x8DE00005): There is an error synchronizing your mail account. Please verify your account is configured correctly by first accessing your mail on the web (I am able to access my email on the web). Error 3219. Server. An error occurred in looking up the users information in mserv.

Any suggestions would be appreciated. I have not had any hotmail.com errors (outlook.com) within Outlook 2010 for many years. I did not make any hotmail.com account setting changes, nor have I updated my logon info, password, etc. I receive my email on my smartphone without any issues. I am receiving my email on Outlook.com (web version). I strongly prefer using Outlook 2010.

There have been some updates to the Outlook web mail server, which have in some circumstrances turned off the option to allow remote access to the server by e-mail clients such as Outlook. Check the Hotmail settings have POP/IMAP settings still enabled.

Outlook.com no longer works using the default protocols in Outlook 2010. The following applies to Windows Live Mail but is also true for Outlook 2010:

Thank you both for replying. I reviewed Outlook.com (Hotmail.com) support questions. Numerous Outlook/Hotmail users are reporting these very same error messages. The Microsoft Help responses were to remove one’s hotmail.com profile. I did so, closed Microsoft Outlook 2010, reinstalled my hotmail profile, closed and reopened Outlook.

Outlook 2010 reopened, took about 2-3 minutes to restore my profile. My email is downloading again. I noted Connected to Microsoft Exchange appears on the lower right tool tray area of Outlook 2010. I have never observed this before.

My saved email is still available. I was quite concerned of loosing them.

I hope these basic and simple tasks will assist anyone having Outlook.com/Hotmail.com “webmail” download to their Outlook applications.
