Outlook 2010 bizarre behavior

When I click on a message in my Inbox sometimes it has a tendency to open it up as a full page in another box rather than just reading it normally at the bottom of my split screen. Similarly it often happens that when I try to close that window the entire Outlook program shuts down and I have to restart it. Is there anything I can do to eliminate this erratic behavior or is this just the new normal with Outlook?

I use Outlook 2010 and am not experiencing that issue. Go to File > Options and spend some time customizing Outlook for your use. The Mail section has a part for customizing Message format, which may help you.
